Rory, Tommy and Neil from my webtoon "Morgana and Oz". To celebrate Pride month I'll be making some more Rory and Tommy art for my patreon~
God I love Neil as a villain. I just wish he hadn't revealed himself as the main bad guy so soon - both for us and for Morgana.
Think about it. He could have done the same thing to her that he did to Seth: a young outcast of a family whose parents are always dissatisfied with her progress in magic, suddenly receiving the approval and patronage of her famous and powerful ancestor. It's too good to be true, but he could still easily be the only adult giving her absolute support and maybe even teaching her magic (because Martha doesn't do anything with her but for some reason still demands success. Where would Morgana get it from?)
I like Neil as a character because I can easily believe you would trust him instantly. The way he's always quiet, courteous, deliberately polite and calm. I don't really blame Seth, Roland, and Eliot for falling for that smile. I just think it would have been a good addition to the story tension if Morganа had fallen for it too. And revealing Neil as the villain would definitely have elicited more emotional response (he was always suspicious anyway, and no one really expected anything good from him, but we would have felt bad for the deceived Morgana).
But by the time Neil talks to Morgana and tries to influence her, she and the readers already know that he is not trustworthy. We were told this by a character we like more than Neil. Although if we had gotten attached to Neil back in the first season we would have had a reason to question Rory's words and Eliot's backstory because "but he seems like such a nice guy!"
a brief moment to appreciate Rory looking like a cutest puppy ever
JUST IMAGINE IF NEIL MANIPULATED READERS' SYMPATHY IN THE SAME WAY HE MANIPULATED OTHER CHARACTERS. THE DIVORCE OF ROLAND AND NEIL WOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNIVERSAL PROBLEM.
UGH he’s so pretty
If evil, why pretty?
