neil and the reoccurring dream

Freckles on her face, like stars in the night sky.

Red ripples of hair, like sand dunes in Vietnam. 

Deep brown eyes, like fire in dark water. 

In a heated wave, with his heart beating what felt like a thousand miles per minute, Neil was pulled out of his sleep. His body remained still under the covers, but his mind was very much awake. The pit in his chest sinking more profoundly by the second.

Another dream. 

It had been the third time this week that Neil had involuntarily woken up from his sleep. For as long as he could remember, Neil has had a string of dreams, always with a focus on a girl he’s assumed to be imaginary. At first, they were harmless, few and far apart. It’s only become a recent pattern of these dreams intensifying, creeping slowly into his conscious mind. This mystery girl has grown to become his closest friend, possibly even developing feelings for her. He couldn’t exactly remember her face - but he could never shake the idea if this is what people call love. 

Anyone who would know about this would deem Cornelius as “the grand romantic”. However, even as the son of dragon rider Lysander Scamander, Neil could not live in the clouds forever.
