The battle against great Stalmandra ends the same way all the others did: with a flashy and disorienting reorganization of the arena. At this point the effect is starting to give Larcei a headache, but she can forgive that fact on the basis of finally getting rid of that Excalibur spell. 

But, much to her dismay, she generates without a physical weapon in hand--again. That means she’s stuck with magic a second time. And to make matters worse, she’s saddled atop a terrifying wyvern. Larcei had never ridden one of these before, and though she knew the Thracian dracoknights to be famous for their prowess in battle, she prefers darting around an enemy’s blade on foot.

But perhaps there’s some greater lesson the Isaachian is being taught here. Maybe she can’t expect to have things always go her way in life; there will come a time where she must adapt to an unfamiliar situation she finds herself in. In that way, the combat experience she’s gained here is valuable. 

So she sucks it up with a sigh, before turning her attention to the axe-wielding minion to strike them down with her spell.

A swarm of shadowy locusts erupts at the enemy when she opens her palm at it. With their Hexlock Shield they manage to swat much of her attack away, but she finds that tightening her fingers causes what’s left of the spell to cling onto them. These ravenous bugs not only ravenously eat at their armor, but pin them in place... Cowardly, but interesting.

“Hey!” she calls, waving to her teammates, “That one over there is weakened by my attack! ‘Feel like workin’ together like last time?” Larcei’s gloved finger points to the enemy she’s struck, directing everyone’s attention to the debilitating swarm gnawing at its body. She doesn’t want to sound overly bossy, and is merely suggesting a strategy, but she knows a good opening when she sees one.

"Well, well... now this is something I haven’t indulged in for a long time.” 

Around them, shadows dance in flickering ebbs and flows. It isn’t a good place for an archer, but it is for a thief. (After all, no matter where they are, darkness is always the same. For some, it exists only to exacerbate fear; for others, it’s a blanket of comfort.

“I normally enjoy playing the predator in these games,” Niles says, glancing over his shoulder with a smile, “but acting the part of prey can be fun every once in a while. An exciting day to try switching, if you’re new to it. Heh.”

More cautious than his movements might suggest, Niles steps forward, ducking behind a jut of metal. His steps hardly make a sound when he moves, and no creature, flesh or steel, is there to greet him... for now.

“Watch your step, Pinkie.”

Saint Seiros has come to town! Yep, you heard right. While Garreg Mach’s seen its fair share of impostors in the past, none so far have had the gall to impersonate the church’s founder herself. Whoever this lady is, she at the very least looks and sounds the part - she bears a striking beauty beyond words, and a commanding presence to go along with it. Is she here to stage a coup? Or maybe she’s just after the church-sanctioned taxes… Whatever the case, you need to land this broad and her impressively large following in jail like right this second. [Grants Faith +1]

“I hardly see how all this is necessary,” Ingrid said, finally looking up from the stacks that failed to hold her attention; arms crossed, she turns to look at this Iuchar character who had managed to convince her this research was all for the good of the church.

The knight of Seiros who had let them into this backroom of historical documents looks over at her raised tone and she, awkwardly, smiles back and pretends to look at whatever page Iuchar has turned to. She’d thought the tip one of the other Blue Lions students had given her about an argument in the library over saints and sources would lead her to the false Saint Seiros that had been causing so much trouble recently, but instead it has just put her in the knights’ crossfire and all for covering for this student she’s never met.

“I know you did not grow up with the stories as those of us Fódlan born have,” Ingrid begins again, voice softer now, “but does that truly matter? There is a woman out there claiming to be the long dead founder of our religion. What possible reason could she have other than to stir disorder?”

Priam hefted a sword in his hand and he was at home instantly. He would’ve preferred one of his own swords, since others just didn’t feel the same, but no minor thing like that would stop him from giving this his all. Surely illusions conjured for a training arena would be no match for them, being himself, a guy he’d ran over, a girl with an appetite to rival his, and a mysterious figure who he sensed may have tricks up his sleeve.

“Let’s get em.”

Priam Roll: 10, -1.5 to fire mage

He rushed in without further preamble, steel sword raised. The first strike of the round was against the fire mage. It was a solid hit with no blood spilled, but at least the illusion flickered, like it’s energy had depleted slightly.

That didn’t stop it from hitting back with a spell up close that he had no time to dodge.

Fire Mage Roll: 12, -2 to Priam

The jet of fire hit his side and singed his shirt and the flesh underneath. He grit his teeth, not even willing to give a phantom the satisfaction of a reaction.

No matter. He refused to lose.

It is a grisly scene when Lana, Maria, and Deirdre arrive. Edelgard is gone, Julius has fled, and Niles and Iuchar both bleed from their hands. Deirdre should be shocked, horrified even. This is the first time she's experienced such drastic injury and yet there is a strange feeling that maybe she has. It is hard to shake but she knows she must. Iuchar needs her.

She looks to Maria and gives her a nod before quickly heading to her patient's side. "It will be alright," she soothes. She means it. There is no other option, no room for failure. "Please try to hold still and I will do what I can for you."

Deirdre reaches her hands out infront of her and takes a deep, calming breath. It won't do to be nervous. She must first clear her mind. With eyes closed, she thinks about Iuchar and her intentions to ease his pain. A warming light forms over the area his thumb once was.

The Havers of Rideable, Sizeable Equestrians (also known as HORSE) have posted fliers around campus advertising a competition: whoever can dress up their horse (or other mount of their choosing) in the prettiest, most dashing accessories will win a grand prize—unknown for now. You don’t actually have to own a mount to enter, as you can “borrow” one from the stables. Find some flowers and get to braiding that mane and see if you have what it takes to win! [Grants Riding +1]

     Between his current physical condition and his previous expertise, Andrei hadn’t attended the Riding classes offered by Garreg Mach thus far. He wouldn’t have the strength to control the horse’s reins in an emergency situation, never mind trying to shoot on horseback with his flimsy excuse of a bow. At the same time, he doubted he had much to learn from theoretical lessons, and thus he rarely had business to visit the monastery stables. Today was no exception, though an errand did bring him to pass before the main gates of the stables, and there, by chance, an unusual sight caught his eye.

     A fellow Ashen Wolf student — Iuchar, he believed his name was — leaning over a steed, a ways away from the gates of the stable. The horse was likely Jugdrali, judging from its size; the others he’d seen in Fódlan have almost always been larger than he was accustomed to. Which suggested its rider, too, was from the same continent, but the other’s face sparked no recognition. Then again, he hardly knew everyone from Jugdral in this place, so unfamiliarity didn’t necessarily mean anything. Still...

     Rather than cleaning or any other type of care, the man seemed to be decorating the horse, the reason for which completely escaped him. Was this some new trend? Vaguely, Andrei remembered a few other people gathered in twos and threes around the area on his way towards the stables, each group around a horse or pegasus, but he’d paid little attention to what they had been doing. He watched three separate flowers get placed behind one of the horse’s ears before the absurdity of the situation prompted him to speak up.

     “What, exactly, is the use of a gesture like this?” He leveled an unimpressed gaze at the horse in question, crossing his arms even as he took a few steps forward, “If the horse sets to anything more than a walk, none of what you’ve put will stay on.”

A fishing expedition off the coast of Brigid offered the perfect chance to get away from the Academy and relax a little… Enjoy the sea breeze and take in the sun… If it weren’t for the crest beast circling under the fishing vessel. The crew is skilled, but an extra pair of hands never hurt; you load the harpoon. [Grants Lance +1] // @neirsung

        Lady Lissa had always stated that his attentiveness would wane if he did not accompany it with a few days of rest and tidings. But he felt himself undeserving as a man, to rest on account of nothing even though he had so much work to be done. It was a task so arduous, so disagreeable that Frederick had found relaxing to be much more of a chore than chores themselves. They why was it that in his impatience that he had agreed to this fishing expedition? With some actual felicity behind the decision, Frederick had decided that if he were to relax, it may as well be done so with purpose behind it! He was to 1) supervise the students on board who had wounded up signing up to the same trip as his and 2) catch the largest tuna he could manage to carry home, and cut it into careful portions to dry and store for the winter.

        "Iuchar, are you keeping warm? Shall I fetch you a second scarf?" Hopefully, this did not appear to importune him, for he only inquired after the young man's health in good-hearted consideration. He was a rather dashing fellow, with his own tidy uniform and claim towards a good head on his shoulders. He had already had a cup of warm tea in tow, since the sea salt and ocean spritz did little to calm the ocean chill that had postured over their small ship. As warm as the sun was, beating onto their backs, the fresh breezes could catch any man a-foul. Before Iuchar could protest, he already had the scarf neatly wrapped above the one Iuchar already adorned, to double up on his seaside resistance.

        "There, now you will be able to sail as far as the sea will take you with nary a cold in sight!" Frederick beamed to himself, voluntarily leaning against the boat railing to check which direction the currents were flowing towards. He had hardly had a bite on his rod all day, so he had hoped to attend to his student in the meantime. However, a florescence that matched that of the unorthodox began to waver beneath their feet, breaking the surface of the water for a moment before diving back into the overcharged depths of black. The crew, practiced and undeterred by the sight, took their eyes off the sky and onto the light that began to quake their ship down to its last board.

        "By Naga—!" The light traced into a symbol he had seen in the scrolls around these parts — a crest! Very much like his Lord's... "Iuchar! Grab a harpoon! There's little time to think before the whole ship collapses into sea foam!"

   Scathach hadn’t been pleased, to say the least, when he’d been sent to this dingy graveyard in search for ghosts suspicious activity. The dreary setting of graves lined up on the damp soil had not been his idea of a ‘good night’ in any capacity. It all felt wasteful anyway, to leave this hulking mass of land untouched for the simple purpose of dumping dead bodies in holes. They would rot all the same without the constant reminder that they would forever be out of your reach now that they were with the worms. But, well- a job was a job, and looting the bodies of the dead certainly wasn’t something he was ok with anyway.

   Though he could write off his involvement as being a job, he could not understand why he had to tag along with someone like Iuchar. It was beyond the young scion why his company would have chosen to come along for a mission like this in the first place. Late at night with low chances of any women to appear, Iuchar was practically stuck with just him. It didn’t really seem in character for the man he’d known back in Jugdral, but perhaps things change. Or- perhaps not... at least not with how flippant the axe wielder seemed to be strolling along. 

   “So... Iuchar. What piques you’re interest about a mission like this?” The start is awkward, even Scathach knows this, but at least he can say he tried. Despite his own reservations, it wouldn’t hurt to try and make this time together less tense. They’d be here all night, and there’d need to be some semblance of teamwork between the two if there was something afoot. “Don’t get me wrong, it just doesn’t seem like something you’d be interested in... If that makes sense?”
