nell and edward → not dead yet 1.13, not just yet
Not Dead Yet went from being a hidden gem to nearly unwatchable?? Like the ghosts have been so sidelined you could basically lift them from any episode without changing a thing; the Edward/Lexi pairing has been nauseating; it seems like they want to make this a workplace comedy but the side characters honestly aren’t strong enough to carry the show in that genre; I WANT MORE CRICKET 😭
Nell’s growth feels totally stunted (probably bc the ghosts are so absent) and I’d be lying if I said her dynamic with Edward wasn’t a huge part of the show’s appeal, so the total loss of that his season has felt really tangible.
I’m watching Not Dead Yet, and from the beginning I shipped Nell and Edward and at the season finale for it’s first season it really looked like they were heading towards a romantic relationship, especially with Edward looking at Nell with such loving eyes and Cricket subtly watching the whole interaction.
So watching Lexi making out with Edward in the first episode of the second season was a complete shock, making me think they had backed away from the romantic relationship between Nell and Edward, at least until I made the connection of Lexi feeling threatened by Nell taking away her dads attention and affection and therefor making her feel like she needs to retaliate by taking away from Nell (something she loves or loves her) or even see it as a desperate act to attain control over the situation.
Anyways I just hope that I’m right and that they don’t try to make Lexi and Edward an actual relationship 😭
Just finished Not Dead Yet and the way Edward comforts and recognises Nell is just... Wow. The line about "How I know you're home" was the most touching thing I've heard in a long time.
The look on his face as he gazes at her on the rooftop. The softest kind of love I can imagine. I don't know what they could be together in season 2, but I hope they get to be there for each other for as long as the other is willing.
"but now i feel more alone then ever"
I’ve been watching not dead yet; I’m so shipping Nell and Edward.
Through my rewatch, I’ve been taking a look at their underrated moments, I noticed an underrated nellward moment in the pilot.
In the scene where she wakes up and realises that Monty is still there, Edward knocks on the door to check if she is okay.
He has shown to care about her even in the beginning. This man heard his roommate screaming from the other room and he could have left, given that he was on a trip before, but chose to politely knock and slowly open the door to assess the situation and make sure nothing happened to her.
That is so sweet.
Finished up season 2 of Not Dead Yet last night and gotta say- not as good as season 1 and not really where I wanted it to go, tbh. Like, the end of season 1 really did set up the Nellward ship and like gave me at least a vibe that that's where it's headed and I still feel like it has to be- because I don't think you can set that up so clearly and not act on it, but also- I'm losing a certain amount of faith that I had because this season.... weirdly sidelined Nell in her own story.
This felt like Lexi's show, not Nell's this season.
And don't get me wrong, I don't hate Lexi as a character, like I personally like her actress and think she's entertaining though I don't connect much with the "rich privileged girl, but her daddy was emotionally distant so feel bad for her" trope.
Like every episode was more about Lexi having a bad relationship with her dad, then the big culmination was her buying back the company. The most present romantic relationship was her and Edward, which I genuinely didn't think they'd push that to be more than sex, but here we are.
Honestly, other than the fertility conflict when Sam's daughter was staying over- it kind of feels like the writers were so excited to have the actor who plays Lexi's dad join the cast that they recentered the show to give him more screen time, which necessitated making Lexi a bigger focal point. Which like I get that he's basically sitcom royalty, but the show is about Nell.
I really do hope that the set-up of him potentially now knowing about Nell's abilities is meant to be a path to get the plot focused on nell again while still giving him screentime next season.
Also, definitely frustrated with how Nell and Edward's relationship was sidelined, not even just because I'm a shipper, but like I feel like Nell got relegated to third wheel and Edward kind of pulled back on connecting with her?
Like, I know the paper getting sold was obviously a big deal- but Edward and her had a whole episode dedicated to him accidentally making her feel like shit about having kids/fertility and he doesn't even react to the news that she's trying to freeze her eggs? Doesn't wish her a happy birthday? Offers her no comfort, even in his clumsy but kind way as she's struggling with possibly losing her job and Lexi isn't helping? Like the whole first season showed he genuinely cares for her, they cared for each other when they were sick- but this season he didn't even say a "happy birthday" to her???? That's not even a romantic thing???
And why doesn't Nell get to keep any of her partners? Like Edward and Lexi are still cuddled up together by the end of the season, but TJ and Nell break up just as they finally get together????
Idk, had some moments, but this season was overall a miss imo.
So, not dead yet...
Now don't get me wrong I like Lexi actually/she amuses me, but does anyone think she started at first being interested in Edward not just because there was a mild attraction but also to get back at Nell since Lexi's dad was so focused on Nell?
Don't get me wrong...I kind of ship Nell and Edward, but I'm also totally okay with them not being a thing
