According to episode writer Laura Phillips, The Fraggle Rock episode, "Gone, But Not Forgotten," was written as an allegory to the AIDS epidemic.
Puppeteer Richard Hunt said shooting the episode was deeply emotional as he had lost many of his friends and his partner, Nelson Bird, to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
