Dawn at Lake Rotoiti (24.11.23)
by Nic Wilson
After climbing his way to the ridge overlooking Rotopōhueroa Teddy took in the view of Nelson Lakes National Park. He sat with the sun shining on his shoulders looking out across the land that glowed with it’s splendor. When it was finally time to keep moving Teddy thought to himself that he could happily disappear into these mountains never to be seen again.

20160927 - Lake Rotoroa, New Zealand
Another part of the Nelson Lakes National Park -- surprisingly though, no other tourists in sight. ‘Rotoroa’ means ‘long lake’ in Maori, and is a popular spot for trout fishing.
We didn’t stay too long as there were so many sandflies. They found us and then just latched on to us in a giant swarm. When we got back to the car it was covered with a massive layer of flies, and we puzzled a bit at the logistics of how we were all going to get in, get out. In the end we tried to get in as quickly as possible, and then drove at speed with the windows down for the next few minutes while we swatted at the files that had crept inside.

Wild winter weather lifts from Lake Angelus at Nelson Lakes National Park. I spent a magical afternoon, and morning at that frozen location during our recent trip to New Zealand and it left me with lasting memories.
