New York City
1989
Roaming Around The East Village On A Beautiful June Afternoon In 1986 (Nelson Sullivan, 1986)
You can watch it here. You can watch a ton more of his videos chronicling 80's queer culture on the 5 Ninth Avenue Project YouTube channel. You can also visit the official website about the late videographer here.
If there is ever a biopic on Nelson Sullivan (and there should be!), they really must hire Jason Schwartzman in the role. The resemblance I saw while watching Asteroid City gave me chills.
New York in the late 80s: Subway train ride from Union Square to Coney Island, c1987, feat. Michael Musto, Liz Lizard, Albert Crudo, in video by Nelson Sullivan
This YT channel has hundreds of Nelson’s videos from the 80s, almost all shot in NYC
Below is Nelson’s last video, shot a few hours before he passed away, just a great tour of 1989 in the Meatpacking District and Westside Highway. That house he lived in is in one of the great spots in the city.
Nelson Sullivan around the neighborhood. Christina flashback tribute.
