Steam Community to get new features
Valve has already announced plans to launch non-gaming software products on its Steam PC-Mac download service starting in early September. Now the company has revealed plans to launch a revamp of its Steam Community features. Valve will be announcing a new Steam Community addition every day for the next four days. The first new addition, revealed today, are Game Hubs. The Steam Community will now have a one stop place for each game in Valve's library of game titles for forum discussions, displays of user generated screen shots and videos and Steam Workshop info, if the game supports that feature. According to Emily Kent at Valve. "The New Steam Community is all about showing off the best content that gamers have created. With over 89 million screenshots, videos, Steam Workshop maps, levels, mods, and items, plus news articles and product updates, the community has created an unbelievable wealth of content around their favorite games." As we have reported before, Valve now has over 40 million registered users on Steam and over 2,000 PC and Mac games to download. Recently, Valve confirmed it was working on porting Steam to Linux, supposedly as a hedge because of Valve founder Gabe Newell's prediction that the launch of Windows 8 later this year will be a "catastrophe" for the PC industry in general.
