1. What do you think was the biggest turning point in your life and how has it influenced the way that you live your life now?
Um... I'm really not sure. Probably starting college because that's where I met the majority of my closest friends (the other two I met in high school). It also meant I became a lot more independent as I spent a lot of time in the city rather than in the town where I grew up, I met a lot of new people, had a lot of new experiences, started figuring out who exactly I was and refining my opinions. Because of all of this (especially forming such a close friendship group), I came out of my shell in lots of ways and it put me on track towards a much better life/future.Ā
I'll probably completely change my mind about this answer in a few days... but that's what springs to mind right now.
2. āPeople who suffer from a mental illness such as depression, and do not want to do anything to help themselves recover and move on, are weak and selfish. Discuss.'
Well, I completely disagree with the statement. Other than that, I'm finding it hard to articulate my thoughts on the matter.
3. What is your connection to the person that has tagged you? What do you honestly think of them and why?
We're festival buddies, penpals and friends :3 I think that Holly's one of the most adorable people I have ever met. She's also an incredibly strong person for dealing with everything that life throws at her; she's determined and ambitious and inspiring because of that. She has a wicked sense of humour, can be very sweet and thoughtful and is an intelligent, spiritual being. God, I've gone all soppy BUT IT'S TRUE! >_<
4. Where do you hope to see yourself this time next year?
I hope to be living either by myself, with my sister, with my best friend, or with both. In a flat or house in one of a select few places. I also hope that I've done some more travelling around by then. I hope that my financial situation will have significantly improved and that I have a job I'm comfortable with. I also hope I will actually have written some of my book.
5. What would be your last meal on Death Row?
Probably fruit... Or hummus. Just a massive bowl of every kind of fruit, a massive bowl of hummus and stuff to dip in the hummus like vegetables or crisps or bread.
6. What is your favourite book? Why?
There is no way I would ever be able to choose a single favourite book, I have too many. I love Wuthering Heights and The End of Mr Y and Love on the Dole and On the Road and Dr No and Please Kill Me and The Alchemist and The Bell Jar and The Book of Proper Names and every Harry Potter and every His Dark Materials book... the list is literally endless. I love books because they take you away to different worlds; to fantasy worlds or just to somebody else's life, different from your own. They exercise your imagination and make you think and see the world in an entirely different way. And they really really help make life bearable sometimes.
7. Describe your perfect day.
It would involve sunshine, blue skies, walking somewhere like the North Yorkshire Moors, swimming off the Cornish coast, reading a lot, taking a bath at some point, being with the people I love, discovering something new on an adventure, antique shops, bookshops, animals, lots of nice tea and coffee and, at some point, alcohol... Having long and interesting talks...Writing, drawing, painting, taking photographs. I don't know, I don't really have much of a concept of the word 'perfect'.Ā
8. Where is your favourite place in the UK? Why?
The North Yorkshire Moors. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been. When the clouds race across the sky on a sunny day and all the purple green moors underneath flash between light and shadow below them, it is literally awesome.
9. Do you consider yourself religious/spiritual? Why/why not?
I am in no way religious and never have been. I am a very spiritual person though. I'm very interested in spirituality, 'God', consciousness, the interconnectedness of all living beings and everything else. I think about it a lot.
10. You can choose to have one person to be āblack-baggedā and to disappear from existence forever. Who would you choose and why?
This is difficult to answer because I kind of feel like the 'Butterfly Effect' would come into play and making one person disappear would have a knock-on, fucked up Ā effect on the rest of the world.
11. What is one piece of advice you would give your 11 year old self?
STOP WORRYING. You will find good friends. You're not hideously ugly. Being thin isn't everything in life. You are not completely pointless and worthless. There's no need to feel guilty all the time... STOP WORRYING AND ENJOY LIFE BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS ACTUALLY OK.
