Am I the only one who thinks we need more sci-fi G/t?

I mean, come on. We have TONS of modern, and a good chunk of fantasy, and a notable selection of superhero themed stuff. But where's our space stuff at? Yes, this is because I am a sci-fi enthusiast. Yes, this is also because my worldbuilding project is sci-fi in nature.

WHY ARE THERE NOT ENOUGH GIANT AND/OR TINY ROBOTS IN THIS FANDOM

Like, robots are so perfect for this kinda stuff. And while Transformers are neat, this isn't what I'm talking about. Robots with code and circuitry and the like. For the smaller side, robots designed for maintenance, service, or even just toys. Assistant droids designed to directly interface with tools rather than operate the controls themselves, so they aren't completely helpless. Spy robots that can slip in and out unseen. Scavengers, communities of small robots that tear apart machinery to repurpose the scrap metal and spare parts themselves. And for larger robots, why not have massive construction robots, with hands easily able to move and stabilize I-beams and massive panels of glass or steel. Warbots with integrated weapon systems, designed to win battles through overwhelming firepower. Gundam, if you're into that kinda thing. Demolitions, exploration, terraforming, whatever!

You want some cool giant robots for inspiration? BT from Titanfall. The Earthmover from Ultrakill. Fallout's Liberty Prime. Look at Helldivers 2's Automatons and tell me they couldn't make those things gigantic. Even minigiants have representation with those "Large but not quite giant" robots.

And while tiny robots interacting with the rest of the characters is more rare than giant robots, you can TOTALLY make that work. Even if you want to make the robot the "normal" sized one! Imagine your stereotypical borrower story but instead of a human, it's some kind of robot. Or the giant meets a robot instead of a human. You not only get the drama of scale, but also of conflicting construction; meat vs metal, small vs tall. I need to write that story I've been tossing around in my head...

So, bugs, huh?

My autistic interest (Besides obscure guns, finding insects hella cute, and Minecraft's Create mod) is Lego. Owning Lego, building Lego sets, displaying them on my desk, the whole nine yards, right? I even own the closest approximation of my profile picture in Lego I could get in the colors provided (Which meant swapping the white for yellow, and the purple for grey, but it still works). Anyway, I got the Lego Insect Collection (https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/the-insect-collection-21342) for my birthday about a month ago, and I have vaguely to-scale insects built out of Lego bricks on my desk. I've just stared at it, daydreaming g/t thoughts, which yeah, I do, but normally not the typical borrower/human or fairy/human relationships. But just... bugs? They're kinda prevalent in my life, imagine how they would be if you're tiny. Imagine a tiny society using insects like we use animals. We use falcons for hunting, they could use wasps, hornets, or dragonflies. Our beasts of burden are typically horses, llamas and mules, but theirs could be beetles. The more intelligent insects (Mantises and jumping spiders) would serve as companions.

I love my friend asking me how a borrower would react to meeting me because I would be a bloody nightmare.

Imagine you're like, 5 inches tall, and you know the guy who lives outside the walls is pretty chill. He has Lego sets on his nightstand, talks in funny voices to himself, is neat, tidy, pretty nice.

And when you finally get to SEE him, it's like 4 AM, and you see this guy walking around, a full 6'2" machine, fairly physically fit, able to stand on his feet all day. And now imagine that human is holding an AR-15 (Granted it IS airsoft but you don't know what an airsoft is, you're a borrower for this thought exercise) and fidgeting with it like it's a toy. Saying something like "I'm gonna f*cking kill you" in a mediocre Australian accent.

For a g/t fan, I'm not the most approachable to any borrowers that may or may not exist.

Also yeah, first post. I'm Nerb. Maybe I'll write something. Maybe I'll show you guys my OCs. We'll see.

Am I becoming the "unorthodox G/t ideas" guy?

Uh, how about historical stuff? I mean, we have THOUSANDS of years of history, and yet I rarely see anything that isn't modern or vaguely European fantasy. Imagine being tiny around major human world events; the rise of civilization the fall of the Roman Empire, the Black Death in the 14th century, the colonialization of the Americas, the Industrial Revolution, WW2, ect, ect. Especially from the perspective of someone who is still effectively an outcast (Especially MY preferred style of writing tinies; where they aren't really in touch with human goings on as much as we are), where all this strange or even terrifying stuff is going on around them. Hell, you don't even have to focus on some major event. Even just setting a typical fluff story in another time could totally lead somewhere great. Hell, I've just got an idea for a story set during the Japanese Satsuma rebellion in 1877. Maybe I'll write it someday, or maybe I'll ditch it and throw it to the wind for one of you guys to pick up.

Thinking About Weaponry

So I see so many people either leave their borrower OCs unarmed, or give them toothpick spears and needle swords, but there's so much more out there. Firstly, bows. A bow and arrow helped us humans advance as a species, and all it requires is a very basic knowledge of tension physics, which wouldn't be hard to experience in a more complicated society. A little bit more technology, some gearing and more structurally sound cordage and you can make yourself a tiny crossbow, which is easier to train someone to use effectively, and has more stopping power (Especially against armour that an arthropod or reptile would possess). Hell, with elastic bands being everywhere, it wouldn't be hard for a society to figure this one out. But why stop at tension-powered ranged options? While hard to obtain, there are situations where using chemical-powered weaponry would be viable; gunpowder. Various forms of gunpowder could be scavenged from human bullets, sure. But fireworks and sparklers could work in a pinch. All a gun really boils down to is a sturdy tube with some boom powder at the bottom and a projectile in front of that. A little bit of tiny blacksmithing could enable the manufacture of gun barrels, and by extension, cannons and small arms. Granted, without more complicated tinkering, I don't think a society would advance to more modern auto-loading guns, but it would be cool. Now, consider; GIANTS. Even a minigiant in the 10-15 foot range would be a monster with what they could wield. Imagine the power of a warhammer wielded by someone x2 as tall as a regular soldier, or the range granted by a giant-sized spear. A crossbow would effectively be a small ballista, and have you seen what a human-sized greatbow can do? But as a connoisseur of modern weaponry, I must add: Militaries have adopted larger weapon platforms that would be perfect for a minigiant to manhandle. With the advent of lighter machine guns during and after WW1, and the adoption of miniguns in the 1960s, it would be possible to field them for infantry use, as opposed to our world which requires these to be mounted on tripods or on vehicles. The MK19 is a 40mm automatic grenade launcher. Imagine giving THAT to your minigiant OC and seeing them wreck havoc. Please, I'm carrying the giant heavy gunner giant archetype on my back with Eights, and they wear an exoskeleton to do it.
