@fenrisvlfr : katla + brandr , alrekstad at midnight
as soon as news reached blarvatn of the failure of jarl baldr’s nighttime attack, kat took off on horseback, praying that she’d be able to reach the settlement before the jötnar forces cut them off entirely. the missive had been simple and succinct, only speaking of baldr’s wounds and no one else, and the pendant feels like it’s burning against her skin, reminding her of the way bran had kissed her so desperately before she’d been forced to leave.
she rides synin as hard as she reasonably can, only stopping to sleep, eat, or rest her horse- though, she had tried to sleep in the saddle the first night. that ended up with her bruised in the grass as synin grazed nearby, so...no more of that. it still takes almost six days for the settlement to come into view on the horizon, but she’s not sure if it’s comforting or worrying that there isn’t a cloud of smoke hanging over the buildings.
hopefully it hadn’t burned.
it’s dark when she dismounts, pulling her cloak over her head and tying her mare’s reins aside so they wouldn’t catch, before sending the horse back towards home. the sight of familiar guards lets her breathe somewhat easier, finally able to smile at them as they let her in.
it’s midnight when she finally stands outside bran’s window, heart pounding against her ribs. please be alright. please be safe. the words play on repeat in her head as she bends, picks up some pebbles, and starts tossing them at his window to draw his attention.
