Whats the difference between Fanon and actual Canon

But ‘canon’ is something that’s concrete and confirmed by an author/creator of a book/show/series. Like…idk, like Katniss has a sister name Prim. That’s canon, you can’t argue it.
‘Fanon’ is a fan’s idea or interpretation of something that’s generally accepted by everyone. So for a fanon thing for Hunger Games, maybe everyone thinks Katniss and Prim would of had another sibling, but their mom had a miscarriage. It’s not confirmed by the author, but lots of people go with it anyway.
I mean I doubt that’s what people actually think but I just needed an example.
And sometimes canon vs. fanon causes a big problem because as people keep going with what they think is true, characters can have their personality thrown way off. way way off. And that’s not cool. :(
