guideline for my life

I haven't had much dealing with the Nerdfighter community, other than positive reactions to one of the first mini painting projects I took on, and congratulations on winning a scholarship that I would not have gotten elsewhere.

But the idea of not forgetting to be awesome. To strive to be at a level of awesome, its been extremely helpful as a guideline for my life, and keeping my levels of depression and anxiety at a tolerable level

The various Crash Course channels has helped me both learn different materials, and plan out future lessons for when I have my own classroom. The Nerdfighter community has inspired me to be better person, a better educator, and above all else, to remain hopeful about the future.

ignorant teenager to a social justice advocator

The Nerdfighter community has turned me from an ignorant teenager to a social justice advocator. I enjoy spreading information and debunking any commonly-thought-true lies. I like who I am now a lot more than who I was, and I'm taking my experiences and trying to help people around me and through my work as a filmmaker.

Recognizing the awesome weirdness

Anyone can realize that we are just a little bit (or a lot bit) weird. But it takes a community like the Nerdfighters to help us see that it's okay to be weird. That other people are weird too. That people really can just be so freaking passionate about art or literature or science or the universe having no edge or secret hand signs or literal metaphors that they want to tell everyone about it. Some weird kids can feel all alone in the world, and seek desperately to find a community just like this one to be a part of.

Being a Nerdfighter, and recognizing the awesome weirdness in those around me has helped me to be so much more comfortable with who I am as a person, and so much more confident in my ability to make friends and make connections with people I share interests with.

I used to try really hard to be who I thought people wanted me to be, in an attempt to make friends, and not only did I not make any more friends, I was really unhappy.

As soon as I stopped trying to be who I thought they'd want me to be, and acted the way I wanted to, I was so much happier with myself as a person, and my happiness drew in people like me who liked me the way I was.

Seeing the Nerdfighter community exist makes it so much easier to keep being me exactly the way I am, because I know there are people out there a lot like me, who will like me better for being me just as much as I do.
