Nerd Friday Cocktail: Hello World

Hello World is usually the first program you write when you learn a new programming language. It got us wondering, if you were to make your first drink, what would it be. Kristy and I both had lemony-sweet-sour drinks as our first drinks, so we figured it apropos that our Hello World drink be something similar. This drink is great for a n00b, but also awesome for a hardened old-timer. It's especially perfect when you don't want to taste the alcohol, or if you just want to forget you're a grown up. Hello World Recipe by Nerd Friday 1 oz Citrus Vodka 1/2 oz Peach Schnapps 1 oz lemon juice 1/2 oz simple syrup 1/4 oz grenandine Place all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Strain into an old-fashioned glass (or something cuter, it is for a first timer after all) filled with ice. Enjoy!

Nerd Friday Cocktail: Peace Out Planet

When the world ends, we're going to reach for everything at once. But it doesn't mean we won't throw class, or fresh breath, by the wayside. So grab everything you've got, get minty fresh, and celebrate the end. Ps. We didn't say this drink was good. We just guarantee that it's perfect for the end of the world. Peace Out Planet Recipe by Nerd Friday 1 oz vodka 1 oz tequila 1 oz light rum 1 oz gin 1/2 oz Creme de Menthe 1/2 oz Simple syrup Pour ingredients into shaker full of ice. Shake. Strain into martini glass. Sip. Cringe. Sigh and relax. The world's ending, at least you're going to whatever's next with fresh breath.

Nerd Friday Cocktail: Summer Games

Let the games begin! This week we've brought you an amazing sangria that's guaranteed to knock your socks right off. Which, you know is perfect, so that you can settle in and play all the video games you like. The secret to this recipe is the kick of pineapple and the extra booze. Now go find a pitcher, and check out the recipe below! Summer Games Sangria Recipe by Nerd Friday 1 bottle inexpensive red wine 2 cups of dark rum 1 cup of peach schnapps 1 cup of triple sec 1 cup of pineapple juice 1 can of sparkling lemonade Optional: 2 peaches, sliced 1 quart strawberries (halved, hulled and stems removed) 2 cinnamon sticks Mix all liquid ingredients, except the sparkling lemonade, together in a large pitcher or punch bowl. Add fruit and cinnamon sticks if including. Chill overnight if possible, at least 2 hours. When ready to serve, add sparkling lemonade (we use San Pelligrino Limonata), and stir. Pour into punch glasses filled with ice.

Nerd Friday Cocktail: PRISM

This week we pay homage to Big Brother and the NSA with a cocktail we’ve dubbed PRISM. You don’t need to hide the fact that you love this clear, effervescent three-ingredient drink - we already know. PRISM A 3-Sided Clear Cocktail by Nerd Friday Fill a highball glass with ice 2 oz Citrus Vodka ½ oz Peach Schnapps Top with club soda or Crystal Geyser Orange Mineral water and give it a swirl.

The Imposter Recipe by Sabrina Eldredge of Nerd Friday This drink is originally a non-alcoholic drink posing as a fancy cocktail. However, you could use the variation to create an alcoholic drink posing as a virgin drink. Your choice. Either way it's perfect for a warm summer day. In a pitcher or large jar, add 5 sprigs of mint (just leaves, no stems), 1/2 cup of blueberries, and 3 tbsp of lime juice. Muddle with wooden spoon until berries are smashed and mint lightly bruised. Next add 3 cups of pineapple juice and 2/3 cup of sweet and sour mix. Stir. Fill tall glasses with ice and pour mixture until glass is 2/3 full. Top with sparkling water or club soda. Garnish with mint spring, and give it a gentle stir (we used the spring to stir) and serve. Variation Pour mixture into glasses and fill until 1/2 full. Add an ounce or two of your favorite clear alcohol (we preferred vodka or light rum). Stir with mint spring, and then top with sparkling water or club soda.

Nerd Friday Cocktail: Into Darkness

Into Darkness by Nerd Friday 2oz dark rum 4oz ginger beer 1oz Kahlua 1tbsp lime juice 5 dashes of bitters (we used Bittercube's blackstrap) In an old-fashioned glass filled with ice, add rum, Kahlua, lime juice and bitters. Stir. Top with ginger beer. Enjoy!

Nerd Friday Cocktail: Our Guilty Pleasure

You know those TV shows you just don't want anyone to know that you watch? This drink is something like that. Sweet, totally addictive, and one that you'd drink all by yourself. That doesn't make you an alcoholic, it just means you have questionable taste.

Whip this thing up anytime — parties, podcasts, *for dessert, while watching your bad TV, whatever. Don't question it. Just enjoy. Guilty Pleasure By Nerd Friday 1 oz Mocha Kahula 1 oz Whipped Cream vodka 2 oz Root Beer Soda Combine all ingredients in a glass over ice. Stir and enjoy. *Bonus: Add vanilla ice cream for a boozy root beer float!

May The 4th Be With Your Cocktail: Qui-Gon Ginger Old Fashioned

We're gearing up for an awesome night of Star Wars nerdery this Friday friends. Be sure to tune in — there are special surprises in store. And in honor of the May the 4th holiday (it's a real holiday to us, anyway), we whipped up our own take on the old fashioned. This cocktail is strong and powerful, exactly what you'd expect from a Jedi Master, but with a spicy twist. Get the recipe below.

Qui-Gon Ginger Old Fashioned By Nerd Friday 1 oz burbon 1 oz ginger ale 1 dash orange bitters 1 tsp suger * ginger slices, brandied cherries, and oranges for garnish In a glass, muddle the suger, dash of bitters, and 1 each of the cherries, ginger, and orange slices. Add ice, burbon, and ginger ale. Mix. Add one or two brandy cherries and orange slice as garnish. Enjoy. *Sub the sugar for candied ginger slices for an extra sweet kick!
