My interests never changed. If anything, they got nerdier.
I started watching Brotherhood 2.0 in 2008 during the awkward transition between high school and college.
It wasn’t an easy transition for me; I felt like a freak who was going to spend her life as that girl in the back of the dining hall, eating dinner with a book because no one else would talk to her. Through John and Hank’s videos, a funny thing happened- I was still (and continue to be) that girl who eats quietly with a book, who plays video games and would rather watch John play FIFA than an actual football match.
My interests never changed. If anything, they got nerdier. The difference is that instead of being ashamed of my nerdiness, instead of considering it a character flaw or a weakness, I’m proud of it. I am proud of being an avid reader, of loving superhero movies and tabletop RPGs. And a funny thing happened once that pride appeared; I started making friends with the same interests, I started having more interesting conversations and a healthier outlook on the world. Things got so much better, simply because there were two brothers making videos that turned into a community.
