Reading A Series of Unfortunate Events to my kid. We just started The Carnivorous Carnival.

Kid: Wait, mom I think Olaf might have been friends with the Baudelaire’s parents but he just decided to be bad, because this VFD thing keeps coming up and that tattoo.

Kid: Mom, hold on. What’s a phone booth?

Me: 😳 It’s a phone in a little clear closet (you’ve seen it at the science center). People didn’t have cell phones so if you needed to make a call you’d put a quarter in and make your call.

Kid: Wow a quarter! That’s so cheap. But how would you know the person’s number?

Me: Well, you’d memorize some numbers or you’d have it on a scrap of paper in your pocket or there were phone books with people’s numbers listed.

Kid: I can’t believe it.

I’ve been reading A Series of Unfortunate Events to my kiddo and then we have been watching the episodes as we complete the books. After the kid goes to bed I’ve been watching Veep. So kiddo can’t sleep and comes into the living room a few days ago as I’m watching and goes. “woah, that guy reminds me of Jerome Squaler from Series.” And I’m all you are right that is the same actor. Kid laughs and goes to bed. Tonight he can’t sleep comes into the living room as I’m watching Veep and goes, “wait, is that the hook handed man!?” And I go yep. He goes back up stairs and is all “I can’t believe it!”
