nerdycauseimme replied to your post: a random reminder that i still have not forgiven…
I don’t think that’s fair tbh…Isak and Even snuck out mid double-date while Emma was off comforting Sonja, and they then got together. She was presumably hurt and told her friends, explaining why she wasn’t with Isak anymore. Rumours probably spread from her friend group. Idk if you can be so angry at her for that…
i did not, and never will, excuse isak’s behavior. he did some pretty shitty stuff to her, and i acknowledge that.
but at first, it was pretty obvious he was not interested. he rejected sexual intercourse with her, his texts to her were pretty curt, and he was obviously not keen on leading her on. the only time he did and pretty blatantly was at the pregame held in his apartment, and that was not okay, i agree.
but this does not excuse her, either. we’ve all done shitty stuff at fifteen, but she does not have the right to:
tell isak, in front of a crowded party where literally anyone could have been listening in, to “come out of the closet already”, since she does not know the struggles closeted lgbtq+ individuals go through despite some countries being relatively okay with the idea.
assume his sexuality at all. even if he is gay, that’s not something she can be sure of. you can’t tell me she didn’t do it out of pure pettiness.
tell anyone – even her friends – about isak being gay. emma is aware of her own popularity in that school. you saw how full her house was at the party. you saw how she carried herself throughout the entire season. it would not surprise me if she not only told her best friends, but also her school friends, and maybe some casual acquaintances. maybe not in a malevolent way, but definitely in a, “oh yeah, him? no, he’s gay, it didn’t work out because of that, lol.”
she knew exactly the rumors that would spread. she’s fifteen, not an idiot.
i don’t have to like her. what she did was shitty. i don’t care for her excuses. i know she was hurt, i know she was angry, but no one has the right to take control over your life. this definitely forced isak to come out before he was relatively ready. he was only in the beginning stages of accepting his sexuality. this made everything happen for him ten times faster, and that’s not okay, no matter how angry you are at a person.
and if none of this matters to you, if you still think it’s unfair, then you can at least agree with me that the show should have handled it better. they should have at least acknowledged the fact that what emma did was not okay, and maybe given her some sort of redemption by apologizing for what she did and acknowledging it was not okay, no matter how angry she was.
we got that from sonja, but the show missed a big opportunity to address a really big issue with emma.
