Response to Another Prompt!
Prompt:
A supervillain has the ability to heal. Why are they a villain?
Response:
Jaison Briske slowly got dressed, taking his time. He had plenty of time before work started, and he could maybe even get some breakfast on his way. His super suit was stain-proof, after all.
Once he put on the mint colored mask that sat on his dresser, he became the most feared supervillain in the city. He was not Jaison Briske anymore; rather, he went by a different name. The Shadow Healer. His super suit was black, but where a chest pocket would be on a normal shirt, there was a small image of a caduceus, a common symbol in healthcare.
The perception of a person with healing powers was normally a hero, but capitalism ruined that. Now, thanks to greedy hospitals, anyone giving healing services for free was painted as evil by journalists.
The headlines were outrageous. “Shadow Healer Heals Terminally Ill Patient, Robs Hospital of Research!” The only research they would do is how much money they could milk out of a family. Jaison made sure he healed only those that would be bankrupted by the hospitals; he couldn’t heal everyone without getting exhausted. He had to choose, and every day it broke his heart.
Healers could not be heroes in this world. Not in this world that depended on the unfortunate to pay impossible sums for basic healthcare.
