In my version, Tabris is not a Warden. After that slaughter he (and a few other elves) survived, he was taken to Fort Drakon (from which he successfully escaped by pretending to be a guard).
He couldn't return to Nesiara immediately — but he promised they would marry.
Darren became the 'Black Wolf,' a local Robin Hood. In the end, he became the bann of the Denerim Alienage. And yes, he married Nessiara. Darren has lost two fingers on his right hand.
