My friend @syncarida was informed of a net-casting spider sighting at uni so we went and found her!! It was my first time seeing one in person and they're so delightfully shaped and the big eyes are adorable.
Net-casting spiders are awesome, both because their technique of flinging a silk web at prey is super cool and unique but also because their eyes are insane. They have incredibly high light sensitivity because they're high-speed nocturnal ambush hunters, but the tradeoff is their eyes are so sensitive that daylight literally destroys their retinas. They have to re-grow the retinas of their eyes every night in order to hunt.
A noble sacrifice to attain such a cute face!
