Netflix is $20 Billion in Debt - Wait, WHAT?!
Children's programming is a major if under-discussed part of Netflix's plan for streaming domination. At least 70 kids' shows were viewed by 2 million subscribe
So if you're not watching House of Cards yet, you should probably just give up.
There's a great article at Thought Catalog that spells out all the reasons why you should watch, but just take my word for it and do it. Right now.
For one, it's Netflix's first venture into original programming, with Arrested Development to follow later this year. This could be a real game changer for Netflix and digital streaming services at large. Plus, House of Cards' plot draws a nice parallel with the changing scape of the real-life entertainment and media industries, pitting a young journalist (Kate Mara) with a desire to use the blogosphere to catapult her career to success against an aging print paper that would rather, "go down with dignity than cater to a passing fad." The real question here is will the big studios and networks take note and adapt to this changing digital landscape? Netflix has now proven that they offer a new distribution system for original content, fucking brilliant original content might I add, and if it can continue to produce hits like House of Cards and the highly anticipated follow-up season to Arrested Development, they will certainly be a force to be reckoned with.
That's all for now. Now stop reading and go watch.
Netflix Confirms Original Series, Beginning of the End for TV?
So apparently Netflix has confirmed that they will be streaming an original series starring Kevin Spacey in 2012. "House of Cards" will be a "political thriller" but no other real details have been announced.
It's interesting to see how online technology is really starting to takeover our usual means of entertainment. With this big move by Netflix, will we start seeing more people ditching cable/satellite to watch their favorite shows and movies through online streaming services like Netflix?
