so! this is something i figured out on accident when i was first prescribed gabapentin. it’s usually a seizure-preventative medication but in some cases it’s also given out for anxiety - only mild cases i would assume bc it’s a very low effect kinda drug. this makes it kinda fuckin useless for anxiety on its own imho
however!! it can be great for a safe n gentle high, especially for people who have bad effects on things that induce Stronger highs. another benefit is that you can’t repeatedly get high on this on a daily basis - your body will acclimate incredibly quickly, making it pretty impossible to get a decent high more than once a week.
you can get a decent high via just taking about 900mg and letting it simmer for a while, but over time in the yonder years as a teen with too much free time, i worked out a way to make the high a lot better n last longer
method below!! cw: drugs, drug use, getting high in general, etc etc
1. lay out 900mg total of the pills. i was first prescribed 100mg capsules and then bumped up to 300mg, so it can be anywhere between 1-3 capsules at a time
you’re going to want to separate your dosages into 300mg every 30 minutes. spacing out how you take the pills helps extend the release duration and gives your body more time to absorb what it’s been given
2. as soon as you take the first 300mg, drink something carbonated. soda, sparkling water, etc.
3. also on the first 300mg, you’re going to want to grab something to eat with a lot of fats/oils. buttery pasta, fast food, etc. the fats will help further break down the medication and help it absorb into your system
4. within an hour and a half, you’ll have taken all 900mg, so just kick back and enjoy. i don’t recommend going beyond 900mg not due to danger, but just because it won’t really increase the high and you’re just going to be wasting at that point
tldr; take 300mg every 30 minutes until you reach 900mg, drink a soda, eat something greasy and enjoy.
and that’s about it! it’s not a fast high by any means, but if you’ve ever taken edibles then it’s about on par with that, but a lot more gradual. it’s nice and gentle and i’ve only ever been super calm/floaty and a little giggly, so maybe give this a try if you have the access!!
(DISCLAIMER; because this is a med for seizures and neuropathic pain, do NOT fucking take them from someone with a prescription who needs them for that. seriously, if you steal meds from ppl just for rec use then you’re a piece of shit. also i can’t guarantee this will work for everyone bc everyone’s bodies are different obvs)
Before I lost 160 pounds, I could take neurontin and go about my day. No fog, nothing but decent pain reduction. Enough so i could move and do what was needed before I ran out of spoons.
Now? It is a strictly at-home, no-plans med. Even at the lowest dose. I am so goddamn high right now. Legally, with a drug prescribed to me. Just so we’re clear. But high AF just the same. This is the drug I’m meant to use for my fibro pain. I can’t take it and drive or go to work. So I’m stuck with mobic and other NSAIDs which is probably killing my liver and/or stomach lining unless I want to be useless and high.
Anybody else been on Gabapentin and had a problem with wanting to eat every goddamn thing that crosses your path? I can't tell if it's new meds or depression.
Stopped Gabapentin last night. Had some scary memory issues and a lot of anxiety recently. Some of the side effects that Gabapentin can cause. I’ve had some symptoms that might not be from Gabapentin... sometimes it’s difficult to tell. Derealization, palpitations (haven’t stopped when I lay down since Effexor...), headaches, numbness in fingers and toes, etc. I’ve had to do a lot of self-soothing talks recently.
Not sure if it will help or hurt but not remembering my actions is alarming. I’m wondering if I just need a reset since I’ve been on them every day for about a year if not longer. So that’s what I’m trying. Good news is my shipment of CBD just arrived. I’m starting that tomorrow night since I need blood work done in the morning.
I’m extremely sensitive to medications so my neuro put me on 300mg 2x daily. I found that exacerbated the memory issues so unless I felt a flare-up, I stuck to 1x daily. There were some days I took 2x daily but it was rare. And it has helped wonderfully. I haven’t had [redacted] or [redacted] infections in as long. If all goes well, I’ll start taking the same dose again come end of October / early November.
Because I’m stopping, I imagine I’m in the path of some infections (basically infections I get because my immune system thinks there’s a problem where there isn’t one) since Gabapentin seemed to help calm some of these issues.
I’ve had to go through similar before with this medication and it usually requires a reset. Stop for a few weeks, have my body overreact to my autoimmune stuff, get back on - this is good for about a year. Rinse. Repeat.
I have wondered if stem cell therapy would help, but that’s not available to everyone due to cost of treatment or other circumstances.
Because this is where we are with helping people fight autoimmune conditions.
