Nevermore unpopular(?) opinion
(also yeah this isn't what I normally post but just so you know every now and then I might post about my interests besides my writing)
My little Nevermore rant:
Okay some people might disagree but the last few episodes weren't the greatest. Don't get me wrong, the art is stunning and I'm always up for some Whiteraven but there needs to be more plot.
You know what thing I hate the most about our society? Injustice.
Especially when it comes to oppressed groups. It follows me everywhere — even in fandom spaces.
I honestly hoped that after the latest Nevermore chapters, people would finally open their eyes about Montresor and see how unpleasant this character actually is.
And let me be clear — I’m not saying people should only love “good” characters. Of course not. Complex, morally gray characters are important, and you can absolutely love them. But at least acknowledge their flaws. And that’s something people refuse to do when it comes to Montresor.
Montresor manipulated Ada and didn’t help her when she needed him — even Annabel, who also manipulated Ada, still came to help her. Montresor tried to kill Duke multiple times, just for the twisted pleasure of it. He literally wanted to do the same to Lenore. And if we can justify Annabel’s actions toward Duke because she was protecting someone she loved, there’s simply no justification for Montresor. He refuses to work with anyone, constantly betrays people, and treats Will terribly. Sure, he saved him twice — but that doesn’t erase how awful he is to him otherwise.
And that brings me to this: the Nevermore fandom is honestly so misogynistic and racist. They hate Annabel and Duke with such passion, yet they adore and defend Montresor — even though the first two had actual reasons for what they did.
Annabel hurt Duke because she wanted to protect Lenore. Duke attacked Annabel not purely out of revenge, but also because he wanted to protect his friends once he realized how dangerous their opponents were.
So I’ll end this with one simple thought: No matter how far we’ve come in fighting discrimination, people still choose to defend the white man and condemn women and people of color — even when that white man is absolutely vile.
Waiting for the new episode....
