I feel like, whether he romances Neve or Rook, Lucanis is going to have a moment where his love interest gets hurt.

He's fuckoff rich, they could both stop working entirely and live on investments for the rest of their lives if they wanted to, and he knows that his loved one doesn't HAVE to work. He could provide for them easily.

They come back to him in pain, not able to move right from their last battle, and he thinks, you don't have to do this anymore.

Lucanis admits one day over post-dinner wine that Caterina handed him a dossier on Rook very shortly after Viago's ascension to Talon and told him to start planning, just in case Viago got any ideas of using his "pet mage" against House Dellamorte in his pursuit of power.

The others are looking between Rook and Lucanis (who aren't technically dating at this point, but every one knows there's SOMETHING going on between those two and also Neve) with a mixture of horror, awkwardness, and tense anticipation.

And then she looks down and keeps sewing.

As Lucanis is grumbling about her use of his nickname and Neve is once again doubting her sanity for developing feelings for two assassins, a slightly tipsy Davrin can be heard to mutter "fucking Crows".
