Nevertheless (2021) - 1x10 - Canon girlfriends
one thing that makes me so fucking angry about how nevertheless ended is that almost everyone on twitter thinks nabi and butterfly guy getting together is normal, romantic and healthy. like, i have seen so many tweets that basically amount to "no matter how toxic it is, love is love" and nABI NOT ENDING UP WITH BUTTERFLY GUY IN THE WEBTOON STRIVED TO PROVE THAT WRONG. and NOOOW a lot of impressionable people and especially TEENS will think that the butterfly guy isn't actually a walking red flag. If something similar to nabi and the butterfly guy's relationship happens to be similar to what they have in a relationship, they will think that it is completely fucking normal and that nothing is wrong with it and that "love will persevere no matter how toxic it is".
Has this show's writing team REALIZED WHAT IT JUST DID-

Na-bi is gonna see what real love is supposed to be like seeing Soljiwan and high tail out of there! But you are so right about their friendship, they were all so protective and respectful of each other! True friendship!
I think what makes me especially rue the missed chances with their friendship is that I'm not even asking for more f/f, as sensitive a topic as that can be, I just want more Na-bi with her friends, which she was good with. She was so patient, so willing to listen to them and give them the focus despite being the lead and having her own issues. I liked her with them.
The whole of ep 10, you can see her smiling fondly at Soljiwan and mentally comparing them to her own situation.
Here, when she's literally bowing her head in despair and exhaustion against the lockers and then up walk the couple on their honeymoon:
And at the art show, where BOTH Na-bi and Sol had sculptures on exhibit but Sol's partner came with her, hand-in-hand, and brought her flowers, meanwhile, Na-bi when Jae-eon's brought up:
And before the famous "Sol..." handhold moment that Na-bi smiles fondly at in the restaurant, there's the part where Sol talks about liking the other person more and that's why you date them that Na-bi pays rapt attention to and takes validation from:
ignoring that Se-hun's "whoever had the crush first loves the other person most" conclusion is false and that while Sol may have liked Ji-wan first, much more importantly, Ji-wan likes her back just as much. Kind of need that to be a prereq for a proper relationship, Na-bi!
And then of course we do get her admittedly very sweet reaction to their handhold:
Right now it's just her being happy for her friends but every time he disappoints her and these two are there still acting like this, it's gonna sting more and more.
And finally, clearly remembering her own good memories with him when she sees them flirting over food:
But again, good memories can only sustain you for so long, as the show literally pointed out.
I feel kind of bad for her and Jae-eon because Soljiwan are the best of both worlds, best friends and lovers, in a way that even normal couples will look distant and mediocre against. But compared to a guy with massive commitment issues who's already hurt her so many times and said he will again, it's gonna be rough.
I seriously thought Sol was gonna say something about liking someone since middle school. I guess her moment was the comment on liking someone more. But was still hoping.
Yeah, it really felt like she was thinking, "You think THAT's a long time? Listen up, amateurs--" Still, what we got was lovely.
Honestly, given the mercurial nature of these and how they very well could have gone a bittersweet route with them, I'm still really pleased they were like, yeah, the friend she's been hopelessly in love with forever? She actually returns her feelings and we get to see what kind of equal, loving, intimate relationship they end up having.
Crushing on your best friend is SUCH a lesbian thing but of all the f/f media we've seen, how often have we actually gotten something like this? Not in fic, fic is full of that, lol, but actual mainstream. Taking people who have been best friends for years and ending up going, yes, you're romantic soulmates too. I honestly can't think of many! And full credit to the actresses and directors, you can see that love and the difference in the before and after, Sol has always been happy just looking at Ji-wan but now she's GLOWING from knowing her feelings are returned. She can touch her whenever she wants and know that Ji-wan understands the full feelings behind those touches now and welcomes them. Given how fraught this storyline really was, I'm still floating on a happy cloud.
i laughed so hard at that scene though because Ji-Wan, who probably knows by now Sol has liked her for years, was all IT DOESN'T MATTER >:((( like girl it sure sounds like you're trying to make a point here because no one was talking about love confessions hahahaha I love her and how lowkey angry she got about it. And then Sol just went all romantic and made her go all aaaaaaaaawwwwwwn
Haha, it was so sweet! Trying to defend Sol's honor when no one except them even knew Se-hun's implied competition applied to her. It really gets to me how loudly Ji-wan is Sol's champion and defender, just as much as Sol is silently hers. They're just so...mutual. :)
And yes, despite her heroic efforts Sol just going ahead and effectively conceding to her (and Na-bi) that yeah, she fell in love first and most, and what of it and Ji-wan just turning into a puddle. They're toooo cute.
