If nothing else, you have to give Gooseworx and the Amazing Digital Circus crew credit because they're all very online people and 100% had to know that making a show whose basic premise is "what if a bunch of people who are all fundamentally a bit exhausting to hang out with were forced to hang out with each other at gunpoint" was a fandom discourse bomb waiting to happen, and they did it anyway.

#no really #its a really good fucking show like art wise thematic wise dialogue wise dynamic wise #but the online fandom surrounding it is if you drag the worst of the dregs of the dsmp and stranger things #and then pump them with cocaine #like i honestly feel sorry for the crew because i don't think they deserve entitled harassment over something they give for free even #this is partly the reason on why i don't believe that art once made public should no longer belong to the creator but rather the audience #bc if you give sole ownership to the audience on the interpretation and consumption of the art more often than not a sense of entitlement #is cultivated - and a sense of feeling that they have a say over what the creators want and effort towards to convey is created #its sad really its a really good show with the most shit of fandoms

as someone who is officially a graduated college girl and has been a fan of slocg even before I was a college girl, here is my response to the question on whether or not it is accurate to college life: yes it is but no it isn't but it kinda sorta is.

#i will not elaborate further for the sake of my dignity.#FJKDK but really i can't say much about its accuracy to my experience because american college is a whole different ballgame to the ph scen #i'll probs talk about the ph university scene next time on here because i think a lot of yall will be confused on how different shit is her #but in terms of like whether slocg was indeed a reflection of college girl life - strangely enough it kinda is?#like obvious differences aside like there aren't THAT many parties and there are no nude parties and shit #but in terms of like experiences and the like it got quite the points right? like majority of the shit the 4 kids do #is what i have witnessed either with myself or with how my friends navigated their journeys #be it in varsity or scholarships or making ends meet with multiple jobs and the parties and drinks and shit #or yes the sex life to a lesser degree but surprisingly it got some shit right with what i've seen in the university scene #like gfjkdd slocg is exaggerated and stuff but for the most part it does reflect what happens in university with glamorized honesty #and its so weird looking back at the series as a new graduate because i first saw this show when i was like i dunno 17? gfkskd so yea #the sex lives of college girls #slocg #i'll definitely miss the college part of my life though now that i type this out - like i believe i had the best 4 years here

been thinking about slocg a lot because fuck it i miss them and i've been thinking about how they explored being gay vs being queer with leighton's arc especially because...i dunno, I have never seen any other media tackle that issue and i mean that legitimately. leighton's arc in accepting queer culture beyond her sphere of influence and privilege is a key part of her bond with alicia in season 1 - and that arc comes full circle when leighton breaks up with tatum because of her refusal to engage or appreciate queerness beyond the "acceptable norm." Like, I never really thought about it that way before, but a BIG PART of leighton's growth as a character is her learning that there is more to her lesbianism through active solidarity with the community she belongs to, no matter how out of place she initially is as a white privileged girl. and though I get why people wanted tatum and leighton to have worked out given that tatum was more accepting of leighton's coming-out process, I genuinely appreciate how the former's unaccepting attitude towards queerness is why she had to go. Leighton understood what it meant to be queer and not just gay. leighton never becomes as radical as alicia in thinking and posture, but her story in understanding and becoming more like alicia and her friends is genuinely a good entry and representation of the difference between queerness and just being gay. and given the political tides being faced by lgbtq+ communities as of late, i genuinely think that discussion needs to be represented further.

#say what you want about slocg man but leighton's turnaround was GOOOOOODD #like i remember people mourning the tatum breakup and though i get them mainly because I though the return to alicia was rushed #people tend to miss the forest for the trees here - the entire leighton-tatum thing was leighton going back to her comfort zone #meaning that of privileged partners and the fact that tatum is blatantly a copypasta of hers #and the breakup was simply a look into how leighton views her relationship with her being gay and the concept of queerness #and the fact that she dumps tatum for her refusal to engage and appreciate - something that leighton herself did in season 1 - means a LOT #both for herself and alicia and how leighton identifies with the community #like i said there is a STAUNCH difference between being just gay and being queer #leighton's story for me is the one of the rarer ones where that discussion is brought up #and i would love love love to see more iterations of that discussion #anyways im excited for pride i have a lot of projects coming up for pride and yea i get to use my comm degree fuck yea #and with the prep for that slocg came to mind and how leighton's queerness was treated #i miss slocg #i should watch it again #the sex lives of college girls #slocg
