one funny thing about growing up bisexual with a very so and so relationship with femininity and gender for me is that the latter can really fuck up the former, at least in my case. I spent a good chunk of my college years questioning if I was even into men - and now that that's all over, the consensus is well yes men are still an attractive and viable option for me, much to the chagrin of my sapphic juniors in journ work. But now that I'm older, I realize now that my attraction to men wasn't the debated issue - rather, it was my genuine fear of having to "act like a woman" when I end up dating one BECAUSE THAT WAS THE PATTERN AND EXPECTATION for queer women in my college program!!

Like no fucking shit, I grew up with people who styled much more masc than I do and are much more inclined towards women than I am, but the moment they end up with a boyfriend, they all go "Now with a good man, I can finally Embrace My Femininity! This is me becoming a woman! Oh how much I love girlhood" and I NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD THAT BECAUSE FUCKING WHYYYY and frankly that thinking deterred me from even thinking about men because I genuinely could not relate to whatever feminine factory reset canon event my girls were experiencing. And frankly, I fucking feared that for me - especially since when forced to be high femme, I get veeery fucking uncomfy! I did not want that to be the future for me and I wasn't keen towards altering myself in that sense just to get and keep a man.

Now that I'm older though, I've become more secure in my means of expression be it masculine or feminine and I'm comfortable in keeping my options open in dating because for me obedience to gender norms don't and shouldn't really fucking matter to how I live my life. My inclination for androgyny did not stop me from entertaining men and women in my college years - but holy fuck, I think there should be a big fucking discussion on how gendered expectations affect how queer women especially navigate themselves and the dating sphere, because frankly I find it quite sad that is has become an expectation or a rule per se that we default to the factory reset of femininity when attached to a man.

And it's very fucking disgusting to me that That Phenomenon is deemed as a good thing.

#like it took me years to figure that out that #I'm not afraid or unattracted to men! THAT DEPENDS but I don't think she's the culprit but I do acknowledge that the theme of change is strong with her #now to zeke: Zeke is most definitely a foil yes and I think the mutual metamorphosis thing would work with him IF AND ONLY IF #he decides to change and frankly for that to happen...he has to stand on his two feet and live...#do I think him a culprit? absolutely fucking not shinku still needs his direct foil and also narratively speaking it will be more juicy #to have him deal with the aftermath of the death #but I do admit that him accidentally and unknowingly killing lyra would also be reaaal fucking juicy #but I still stand that shinku needs his direct foil for chap 4 #anyways this leads me to ismene because..I actually don't know JGKSKS but like hear me out #I need more time to like verify this but throughout drante she has been like the only one to call out lyra on her bullshit #and like force her to change #Zeke and Lyra's codependency though provides the comfort they both need and want from each other #does leave each other willfully stagnant in them like not wanting to move forward and address shit they don't want to address #likei it's their 'normal' so to speak - the comfort of the familiar and someone that doesn't want to push any further #which is why ismene coming through to lyra somewhat in chap 2 is important because that snapped something out of lyra #I have yet to like really consider their dynamic in chapter 3 and I think I'll have to revisit that #but the fact that ismene and lyra stood as a challenge to each other in a sense is like. that must like. that must mean something right #and THATS why I believe ismene is the culprit because ain't no way she isn't gonna be important here somehow #drante spoilers
