#new faultlines

Not sure how I missed out on hearing Lip Readers before today. The band is made up of members from Ovens, Tony Molina and New Faultlines. They were part of the vibrant (and still vibrant) Oakland scene.

The music on "Clean Kitchens EP" is an excellent representation of the aforementioned bands.

This was released in 2020 on Los Angeles based label Refry Records. Be sure to check out Vaguess - great garage rock in the vein of Gentleman Jesse or The Black Lips.

I live in Northern California.  I love music.  The Ghost Ship fire hurt on many levels.  Anything that can help the victims is something I applaud.  So here is another music-based effort from Loose Grip Records.  There are great songs from New Faultlines, Tony Molina, King Khan, and Jaime Paul Lamb.

This is definitely alternative/indie, or whatever you want to call it.  Actually, the sounds are diverse - punk to funk baby!!

Dick Stusso is the stage name for Nicolas Russo.  I saw this in the “tracks” section of Pitchfork, but they made this sound like a country album.  Yes, there are songs that tend to have a more countryesque feel (The Ballad of Dicky Stuss) but there is some straight-ahead rock, some noisier rock (A Tale of Two Dickens), some mellow (Back Country Wrong).  Plus this is a two EP cassette.  All the songs I just mentioned come from Nashville Dreams.  Sings The Blues has much weirder stuff on it.

I can hear Bingo Trappers, The Nectarine no. 9, Wilco, John Lennon, New Faultlines and Pavement.  I hope you can tell from these references that this is a diverse collection of songs.

This is released on a relative newcomer - Vacant Stare Records out of Oakland (same home of New Faultlines), CA.

I fell in love with this band the instant I heard them.  They really have so many influences that it’s hard to pinpoint them.  They sound Australian, but they’re out of Oakland, CA.  They remind me of classic pop, but then they’ll break out into country and/or noise.  I will say the vocals remind me a bit of the beloved Bingo Trappers.  I heartily recommend both releases.
