I must have dreamed that I wrote this blog entry - because I thought I started, realizing only right now that I have no drafts anywhere. Fun Stuff!
Anyways, this mix was really, really fun, because most of the tracks are just some that I found while looking through different mixes online. I always look forward to nights where I can find new music that’s exciting and uncommon, so that I can share it with my friends or on my show with you guys.
1. Fear is the Mindkiller - Element & Rinkadink
- When I Found this song, I thought that it was from 2006 at the oldest. Turns out it only came out a couple of months ago. I’m not as big of a fan of progpsy as I used to be, but there’s still some really good stuff out there that I try to hone in on when I can.
2. Laptop Lapdance - Diffus
- After hearing this song in a mix that a friend of mine made, I looked up the album to find that Filt was the curator. No wonder its so good. It’s free, too! This isn’t the kind of funk that I really like, but its got a good, constant rhythm - and the minimal bass is something I really enjoy
Talk Spot
Crush - Slice n’ Dice
The people on Discogs, Ektoplazm, Soundcloud, and all of these other websites dedicated to the psy scene are so amazing. People who organize events, festivals, DJs...all of these people are so, so inspiring. I never imagined the work that goes in to making sure all these people have access to music and information - about the music and scene in general. There are too many to name. but Its totally amazing to be part of a such a network. such wow.
3. Ramp! The Logical Song - Scooter
- I didn’t find this one on the internet. can say with some confidence that this is the song that introduced me to real electronic music. I was maybe seven years old, and I was taking dance classes at a really intense school, and one of the older teams of girls danced to this song. I never forgot it. Little did I know at the time, that Scooter is one of the bigger early acts in dance music in Germany. This is one of their only trance-ish works, everything else seems to be decidedly hardstyle.
4. Einfach Sein - Klopfgeister RMX
- I cheated, it’s a remix! I’m sad I messed up this transition. Another German artist, Klopfgeister is hailed as one of the most widely recognized nu-goa artists in the scene. Personally, I think he’s decidedly progressive. I found this track awhile ago while pillaging the internet for new music. It turns out that Klopfgeister has a TON of free stuff available for download, including the album from which this song is taken - Reality is for Pussies
5. Follow Your Dreams - Pop Art
- Turns out that Pop Art is actually Indra! In my mind, there are two countries where its really hard to find bad psytrance - Israel and Mexico. I like this song because its got a nice message, a nice sound, and it’s by an artist I didn’t know about before.
6. Grim Leaper - VirtualLight
- Montreal-based living legend, Virtual Light, or Vincent Grella, is a staple of the scene here. When I saw him last year at a local festival, to put it briefly, it was pretty mfucking crazy. Not only has he collaborated with some of the biggest names in psytrance (Wizack Twizack, Random) he also has an Esty, for some psychedelic apparel, if that’s your thing.

7. True Reality - Interactive Noise RMX
- This is another little hommage to one of the major players in the Montreal Psy scene. Aio, who’s been organizing events since late ‘13, and who’s been DJ-ing, probably since she was born. I heard this song on a mix of hers that has since been taken down from her soundcloud, but I still have lying around on my computer. She’s currently circulating her message of good vibes and great psytrance all around the world. (’: I’m so proud of her!
