How to do Braid Stitch

#NAKNICROMO DAY 24 Most Challenging Project So I finally figured out my most challenging project. It was my first square of the BAMCAL2018 January square called Grumpy Grandad. https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Portia74/grumpygrandad Mine wasn’t so grumpy yet it definitely was my most challenging. I learned many new stitches & techniques!! It was a blast!

I learnt my two stitches! I started with the waffle stitch snood, I used some of my nans old wool along with a strand of lilac dc stuff that I had lying around and a 10mm hook to make it good and chunky! Then I waffled my way around and eventually ran out of the pretty spotty wool so I put in a twist (because I decided I quite liked the back of the waffle too!) and single crocheted it together into a snood! It was originally going to be a nice long scarf but I ran out of the wool :(

As for the hand warmers I followed this pattern here. The first one I did I was focusing too much on getting the stitch right and let the pattern slip slightly, I ended up with more stitches around the fingers than I should have done, but I managed to perfect it on the second one! I was very glad that on my second bullion stitch I managed to accidentally find a method for doing it! I can really understand why people don’t like this stitch now! I used a 5mm hook and a random knitting cable thingy I had to hand, I think if I make them again I would find a narrower stick to wrap my stitches around as I think it would make them a bit neater.

Work in progress. Destined to be a gift for my best friend :) Let's see if I can finish it before the baby comes (already past my due date lol).

Heels on a sock loom are tedious.
