New Texas is both the name of the planet and main town. No one differentiates how it’s said yet everyone from new Texas can tell the difference some how.

So shit like this happens:

New Texan 1: I’m from new Texas

New Texan 2: oh you pompous shit

Other: aren’t you both from new Texas?

New Texan 2: yeah we’re both from new Texas but they’re from new Texas

Other: what does that mean?

New Texas has a terribly wired electric grid that doesn't hold up to anything at all and is still out for weeks after just big SpStorms, let alone SpHurricanes. This is a big issue in new Texas, but the government refuses to fix it. (They refuse to fix any problems.)

Sounds awful, this would be an absolute tragedy if we had any real world parallels.... Thank god the government is perfect and our electrical grid is up to date and functioning! /J

You have very interesting takes on new tsxan biology, so what if Jack met Jonny after being mechanism but before the death

(Ironically I realize this could fit in my au but aint suggesting that tho you could if really wanted)

Jack wasn't a stranger to cruel punishment. His territory thrived because he held an iron fist and made examples of the ones who tried to fight against him. He used his men like toys if they ever tried to leave, but he stared at this man before him and he could feel bile rise in his throat.

Foreigners don't come to New Texas, and this kid ain't an outsider. He looked wrong. His arms were too skinny, and his skin was tight as if his body was eating himself from the inside out. His eyes were sunken in, barely hidden by the heavy makeup to make his markings pop. He's never seen eyes that blown before, like the kid was one second away from running. His clothes were handmade, and it could only hide so much. He could count the boy's ribs from a side glance. The belts were useless, and the holes looked to get tighter to keep up. His horns were way too short and look to be done on purpose. He's pale like he never saw the sun, and he was on deaths door. He didn't think their fur could be thin, but this poor kid seemed to have none on his body.

Jack grimaced as he watched the kid approach the bar. His walk was stilted as if his legs were in pain and he wore shoes. Looking closer, his teeth seemed transparent like his body was desperately sucking the marrow to feed itself. He had earrings, but they seemed to weigh down his ears they folded over themselves, and it looked painful. His tail was completely bald, especially where the puff of fur at the end should be. His nails were gray they were supposed to be black and never chip, they're their talons to fight in the worst case.

The poor kid is the only thing Jack could think as he could smell rot as the boy talked. His own body seemed to be dying from whatever abuse he was getting.

The voice.... Jack knew that voice. It was Billy's kid, but he... he... he would never do something like this to someone even he had limits.

New Texas Ghosts

So, I'm here at home watching a ghost hunting show on Amazon, and I had an idea.

Suppose the general assumption on New Texas was that Jonny Vangelis died in the casino fire on the same night his father died. Imagine a new building gets put up on the site where it had been. The owners start to see strange things, so they call a group of ghost hunters.

These hunters do their research and assume that the casino owner is haunting the place and that Jonny Vangelis is there, too.

The Mechanisms, nominally led by one Jonny D'Ville (ne Vangelis), show up just in time to find out about this and decide to have some fun.

"Jonny, are you here with us? Can you let us know if you're here?"

<the sound of the hammer on a very specific revolver pulling back and something cold against the head of the investigator> "Hello."

The investigators have been operating under the assumption that Jonny has been in his grave for at least two centuries, so when this happens it is, as they say, brown trousers time.

Jonny decides to let them live just because their reaction was hilarious and he hasn't had a good laugh for at least a decade. Not that he isn't going to let the others have a go at them, mind, but it is a good story.
