Sometimes the best moments come from spontaneous trips to a castle ruins. We had to nip and pick up a grocery order at lunch time so I decided to go a little earlier and have a walk along the river. The kids saw the castle ruins and wanted to go and explore. We are so lucky to have a little places like this on our doorstep. Newark Castle, founded in the mid 12th century by Alexander, Bishop of Lincoln. Originally a timber castle, it was rebuilt in stone towards the end of the century.
