We have a two-sided fireplace now. I'm looking at a more European model that is smaller and self-contained. // Growing up we had a round fireplace right in the middle of our living room, family room, kitchen and dining room. When we had a fire it warmed all the rooms and created a hub for gatherings. I had great conversations with my Mom there - she in the kitchen and me sitting on the raised fireplace hearth. // Fireplaces had a calming effect on me. We often had a fire on the weekends in the winter to start our day. A fresh pot of coffee and the warming heat gets us going for weekend chores.
