Alright let’s kick this off with some old new music for you all. First band in this series will be one of my current favorites.
#1 - STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
STP as they are known by their fans formed in San Diego, CA in 1989. Originally consisting of Scott Weiland (Vocals), Eric Katz (Drummer), Dean (Guitar) and his brother Robert DeLeo (Bass). Initially they were part of the Grunge movement but in my opinion they’re just a great rock band because their music borrowed from several different genres throughout their discography.
Scott was, by far, the best. He died in February 2013 of a heart attack in his sleep. It still saddens me when I think of that day. He was a good dude, a talented musician and true artist. I miss his music. I miss him.
As you can hear STP's music weave between driving fast tempoed hard rock and melodic haunting ballads. This from Wikipedia, "While initially rising to fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, further releases from the band explored a variety of styles, including psychedelic rock, bossa nova, and classic rock. Stone Temple Pilots are regarded as one of the most successful rock bands of the 1990s, having sold more than 18 million albums in the United States and 40 million worldwide that decade."
Scott's death in 2013 was sudden and most people thought that the band had reached it's end but they had parted ways with Scott shortly before he passed away. They had brought Chester Benington of linkin Park.
It's unusual for a band to replace their lead singer with a guy that sounds exactly like the last guy.

But the band took it a step further. Enter Jeff Gutt.
After listening to STP with Jeff Gutt. I finally came to realize that the members of Stone Temple Pilots decided that their band had a style and sound that is their own and Scott created that with them and the fans can still it enjoy it. I'm sure Scott is still their when they play even if you can't see him you can definitely hear him. You can still catch these guys live. They'll be coming around at the end summer.
