OKC Broadway is betting that local musical theater fans can’t “Say No to This”: A diverse 2018-19 season that will offer them the chance to revisit “Memory” of beloved classics and urge them to get “On Your Feet” to revel in popular new titles coming to the Civic Center Music Hall for the first time. A partnership of the Nederlander Organization and Civic Center Foundation, OKC Broadway is preparing for its third season, which will include multiple titles by legendary impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber, two new shows inspired by acclaimed movies and a jukebox musical biopic about a pair of groundbreaking Latin music stars. “I think to stay true to the art form, we have to show the variety. … We have to bring the full spectrum,” said General Manager OKC Broadway Elizabeth W. Gray. “What we want to do is just make the next season just a little bit better than the season before. We think we’ve done that.” Although the 2018-19 season will include four titles still on Broadway, the highlight will certainly be the Oklahoma premiere of the pop-culture phenomenon “Hamilton,” as the national tour of Lin Manuel-Miranda's musical smash comes to OKC July 30-Aug. 18 at the Civic Center Music Hall. [. . .] “I think the hype is still there. Unfortunately, there is still the bad hype, which is the scalping tickets. That is still going on and pretty rampant. When we talk about ‘Hamilton,’ we always say tickets are not on sale to the general public. So, if you are the general public and you have purchased a ticket just to ‘Hamilton’ for the upcoming season, you have purchased it from a scalper. And you should be very, very cautious,” Gray said. Gray said single ticket sales likely won’t start until spring. While most OKC Broadway shows run for eight performances, the Broadway smash will close the season with a three-week engagement in summer 2019. “That’s 24 performances,” she said. “There will be an abundance of tickets available at the general on-sale.” [. . .]
