It's tech time (14/11/2014)
Monday - off floor due to tumblr not being doing as a result I wasn't able to do my fairy tale monologue that I had written.
We had come up with new ideas and the possibility of having a new way to begin our piece for the newspaper project because our original idea we felt wasn't conveying the message of what we wanted. Instead we worked on the idea of having most of our group behind Jack in a formation copying his movements of him inspecting his own body in disgust as he doesn't like his own appearance and sees himself as being ugly. It works in a way we just need to see what Gavin and Carleigh think of it, how I feel the nerves starting to kick in as it's nearly a week until the show goes out and time is of the essence and changing things to see if they work at this stage makes me feel on edge because if it doesn't work it's back to the drawing board. After a very stressful morning of working on the newspaper project we had a more relaxed afternoon where we played some games we never play before with Carleigh we played my favourite out of them all rotten sardines, which is like hide and seek but if you find the person who is hiding then you have to stay and hide with them instead of catching them and the last person to hide with everyone is the rotten sardine. Spare chair is where a series of chair are in the room with one chair left empty one person had to get to that chair but can only pigeon step their way there, everyone else has to work together moving around their own chairs to ensure that person cannot sit down , if someone gets out of their chair they have to move to the other chair as they can't sit back down, this game test you teamwork skills, coordination and that you need to be calm otherwise things tend to turn to chaos when everyone panics and are all trying to run to a seat to make sure the person can't sit down. Last but not least was good morning your majesty two group had to sit and face the wall with their eyes closed a person was chosen from each side and had to say good morning your majesty to the other team however they had to say it in a silly voice in which the other team wouldn't recognise who it was and try to guess it was if they got it right they won a point if they got it wrong they the other team wins a point. This tested your listening skills as you had to pay close attention to the voices to see if you could notice who it was despite the change in volume or pitch.
With Innes we did some more monologue work, we started of the day with how our monologue character would react to different types of music and various colours and what emotion they would associate depending on the colour. For my own personal experience I found the music to be a lot easier then the colours as I was able to create scenarios in my head for my character with the different types of music as I paid attention the beat of the music, with the colours I found it harder as all you got is a colour which you have to interpret it your own way and I found that harder to work around for my character. We then did pair work we had to tell a story of what we did over the weekend to our partner I was with Lewis I don't think he was enjoying what we was doing at all so it gave off a negative energy working with him on this, I didn't feel that that was fair if you don't like doing something sometimes you just have to suck it up and carry on with it. We swapped partners and worked on our monologues with our new partners with Alex she brought a more positive energy to work with working on our contemporary and classical together we gave tips and advice of how we could better improve them, it was nice to get an insight from someone else who wasn't necessarily a director on what I needed to do. We both gave each other different ways of how we could tackle them by giving each other scenarios to act out with the monologues, for me I feel that this really benefited me as it gave me a new way to tackle my monologues.
Working more on the newspaper project we found it hard within our group to time our piece as we had to keep going over things with the actors to ensure they knew what they were doing , personally I felt that they were unfocused which was resulting in the constant stopping and starting. Showing Gavin and everyone what we have now worked on so far, there was a slight technical issue with the music not working which was slightly embarrassing however I was proud of the actors because despite that little hiccup with the sound they remained focus in what they were doing. I started taking mental notes on what I saw so I could give them, feedback as well as Gavin. My own notes that I shared with them was that Sidney needed to bring more energy to her character she's the main fashion designer as that character she should know her fashion like the back of her hand because at the moment James who is learning from her ways is upstaging her because he is more a lot more energy to what he is doing then she is, so I just think she needs to work a bit more on character, the models need to bring more character to what they are doing as well because at the moment it just seems like they are standing there and not dedicating themselves to that character it almost seems as if it's a chore for them to do so. Gavin gave us the point of he doesn't really think that the X factor and the judges fit with the piece and could possibly be scraped it was a bit of a downer because the actors seemed to like that part as they came up with it themselves but we need to think of the bigger picture of our entire piece as it all need to make sense together.
Carleigh set us the challenge of two groups as separate theatre companies which we had to research about then answer various questions from the research that we have done about them, all of this had to be presented as a TV talk show. My group consisted of Alex, Harriet, Erol and our given theatre group was The Sydney Theatre Company, some of the questions were harder then others because although we was able to obtain the answers we needed for some of them others we couldn't barely find answers to so we had to go off the smallest piece of evidence and elaborate on it. We also had to create a game for the other company to do whilst trying to sabotage their own game whilst we were doing theirs. It was nice showing Carleigh and Laura what we had produced the little moment of the play fighting at the end with everyone was especially funny, although the research was hard, just acting out as the characters we had was enjoyable.
