Note that Newt has never been coddled. Ever. She has always been thrown straight into whatever task she has been given. Especially with supernatural affairs. She is was told to shift at will for the first time by her father. When she couldn't she was thrust into a situation where she needed to shift to live. Newt was thrust into writing the field guide, her grandmother on her deathbed gives seventeen year old new a leather bound book and directs her to notes and tells her to complete the book while in America. When Newt falls in love, it isn't slow. It's fast paced and breathless. But when she finds out that her lover isn't who she thought he tries to kill her. Leaving her scarred and untrusting.

Newt is a very frantic mother, she is the epitome of a cautious first time mother. She will guard her child with her life.

Newt's mother abandoned her, but her father hung around until he died when newt was 21. Newt trusts men more than other women because of this.

So newt is half Native American and Irish. She is also a skin walker, easily shifting into a lynx. The Celtic magic and the Native American magic and spirits can sometimes mix together as she practices.
