Leta & Newt 🖤
So... It's middle of the night and I'm thinking of Leta and Newt again. But anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts with u!! Ik that Newtina is canon, but honestly... I never shipped these two. I tried to like them, but I can't, and I have the same problem with Theta. I can't see the chemistry between them, it all feels forced to me. On the other hand, Newt and Leta were something else, but let's start with the beggining. — Their relationship at Hogwarts: Leta was always judged because of her ancestry. Everyone saw her as a Lestrange, that girl with her dark family legacy. Everyone, but Newt. He saw her for who she really was, and he loved her. We know that she was his first love, and I think she has fallen in love with him as well. I mean... She literally carved their initials in her own desk. ''L+N'' like... y'all can't tell me he was just a friend to her. Oh, he also took blame for her experiment. And this scene under the tree... they were meant to kiss. — Their relationship after Hogwarts: Newt literally had her photo in his suitcase even after all those years, and when they met in the ministry... The way they looked at each other. Friends don't look at friends that way. Their chemistry was obvious. When she told everyone the truth about Corvus, Newt was her comfort once again. He was the first one to tell her that it wasn't her fault, that it's alright. ''Oh Newt, you never met a monster you couldn't love.'' yeah, this quote broke my heart into pieces, but... when she said ''monster'' she meant herself. ''Love''. I think it says everything. And then she dies for him. And yeah, ''i love you'' could be towards them both, but the movement of camera... It showed Newt first for a reason. So yeah, I think her confession was to Newt. I said what I said!! — My theories / headcanons: Soo... Her engagement with Theseus is complicated, but I think she didn't let herself be with Newt, 'cause he was too good, too pure. She didn't want to hurt him, since she saw herself as a monster, and Theseus was the closest thing to Newt she could've ever had. And I also like this headcanon that Newt carried Pickett with him because it reminded him of the old times at Hogwarts. The day when he showed Leta bowtruckles. The day that they fell in love. — I love them so damn much, and I think no one can change my mind lol, but I respect all opinions!! Soo, if u ever wanted to have a rp with them both, feel free to write!!
Holding hands 🥰
NEWT X LETA and the Problem with Leta's death
I am tagging this as NEWT x LETA, so if you aren't a fan of this ship or if you adore Tina x Newt, then please SKIP this post (still probably gonna piss off a lot of people):
I never could really feel anything for the Newt and Tina ship. I like the characters by themselves, but as a couple I just don't feel it. I never have. It was always "meh" for me. And the fact they only knew each for like what, a week? And we are supposed to believe they have developed enough feelings for each other to the point that Newt begins to carry a picture of her?? I just can't.
Then we learn the history between Leta and Newt, and see in COG the obvious chemistry they still have despite being apart for so long. This is even more evident in the screenplay. These are two people who have known each other for years and who comforted each other during their tough adolescence. Heck, Newt literally took the blame for something he didn't do for her and then proceeded to carry a picture around of her for years. That in itself is very telling.
Yet we see that after meeting Tina, Newt literally has a moment where he asks "who" when being questioned about Leta by Tina (suggesting he is so into Tina by now that he has forgotten about Leta). This is just so unrealistic/uncharacteristic to me based on what we've been shown so far that I almost can't accept it as canon. Then don't get me started on Leta's memories of Newt and her words of "I love you" directed towards both brothers that obviously showcases her feelings.
Honestly, I wish this love triangle had been completely left out because of the fact that Newt and Leta didn't get together. Now, this isn't just because I ship these two and wanted them together. It's because of the underlying messages that people can take from their situation, as well as due to Leta's fate, which I find to be problematic.
As someone who is a person of color, I've been very aware of when I see poc characters in books and films because I enjoy the representation and love seeing characters that I can relate to and who are strong and inspiring for me. I love it a lot in romances because it gives me hope that I won't be judged based on the color of my skin or my ethnicity when being viewed by a prospective romantic partner.
I've since noticed this trend in major films and books where in love triangles, a white character (and usually the main character who is on the "good side") would have some sort of romantic tension with a poc character, sometimes even going so far as to getting in a relationship with them, but then something would always happen that would cause that white character to get with another white person instead.
Now, there's nothing wrong with that in itself, but the way a lot of these stories go into why and how the main character gets with the other white character is through making the poc character look bad, sometimes even in an out-of-character way (whether through them doing immoral actions, or just not being as powerful or strong) compared to the white character. Think of Jacob from Twilight, Cho Chang from Harry Potter, Flynn from Star Wars, Hancock from Hancock, or Amber from Invincible. Or sometimes, there may not be a love triangle, but the poc character gets killed off, and now I see this with Leta.
Actually, I see Leta as falling under both of these categories. She is depicted to the audience under a negative light from the very get-go due to Queenie talking about her being a "taker" (yeah, the irony of that coming from Queenie is definitely there) and the fact she is a Lestrange, a surname that everyone who loves Harry Potter knows is associated with insanity and darkness. Automatically she, the poc character when compared to the white character, is looking unfavorable to the audience.
if you ever want to rp literate or novela on discord for newt scamander/leta lestrange, by all means, this is my formal invitation to dm me. i'm more than willing to double on other pairings too, but this... please. i wanna write as my girl. they did her so dirty.

About nine months had passed since Paris. Grindelwald’s movement spread across the wizarding world like wildfire, earning him a significant amount of followers. Tension grew within the wizard community, causing the ministry a lot of grief. Grindelwald, being the infamous, conniving dark wizard he was, went underground. No one has seen or heard from him since. He was nothing but a menacing whisper in the wind.
