It occurred to me that a two-way Romney/Santorum race would need something to spice it up a bit.
More primaries tonight
Alabama, Mississippi, and American Samoa have Republican primaries tonight. Hawaii has a caucus. Mississippi and Alabama are the more important ones to watch--because they could go to any of the (non-Paul) candidates. If they both go to Santorum, there are some serious questions about why Newt is in the race. If they both go to Romney, there are serious questions about why anybody else is still bothering. And if they both go to Newt, then ... NEWT-mentum!
A Newt/Newt victory or a Newt/Santorum split mean we've got a credible three way race (and Paul) all the way to the convention. Yes, Romney's delegate lead is likely insurmountable--but Newt, Paul, and Santorum don't need to beat Romney--they just need to deny him a majority and make him look like kind of a loser.
I'm hoping for some #Newtmentum.
What's the opposite of coat tails? Entrails? That's where down ballot Republicans will be shoved if Newt gets nominated.
I don't want to give the Democrats a nice little present.
Mitt Romney, when asked why he'll wait until April 15 to release his 2011 tax return.
It's hard to fathom how loaded this statement is. First of all, he's banking on already locking down the GOP nomination, in spite of South Carolina Newtmentum and winning one primary so far. And his tax return will be a "gift" to the Democrats???? He used the same excuse for destroying all the emails and hard drives from his gubernatorial administration.
Look out, Cuz! It's Gingrich and he's got Newtmentum! I guess 30 minute attack ads take their toll on us Romney's.
"The real question in South Carolina, as we've noted before, is whether social conservatives will unite behind one Romney alternative or continue to splinter between Gingrich, Santorum and Paul. This poll, with Gingrich catching up to Romney and Santorum down in fourth, indicates that Gingrich could be that rallying point."
Everything about Newt Gingrich--the operatic temperament, the multiple divorces, the six-figure credit line at Tiffany's, the ego, the solipsism, the sheer haplessness and capacity for self-delusion--it all summons up the 'Real House Wives of Beverly Hills.'
TNR's Johnathan Cohn • It may sound like a pithy, superficial comparison, but Cohn backs up his argument effectively: "They're all aging, camera-hungry divas who used to be something that they can't seem to let go of...they remain the stars of their own universe, blind to the indifference of the world around them...They're always causing scenes, having fights, and then apologizing to their "frenemies" but not really meaning it." Sounds spot-on to us. We'd add one more: Like Gingrich, the Housewives are highly entertaining to watch, but ultimately irrelevant in the 2012 presidential election. source (via • follow)
