There’s a pause in your rummaging when you’re addressed without warning, and though you failed to respond, your heart is pounding in your chest. 

The crusty cheeseburger is held in your hand with uncertainty as you turn to face your company, though you do your best to remain placid for the most part. “Er, nothin’.” God, it’s so embarrassing when you’re caught digging in garbage.

“I..... accidentally tossed my burger without thinkin’, yea’.” you lift the half-eaten food item in an attempt to validate your alleged claims.
