big post of what some characters’ magic looks like
Menko: most of their spells are felt & heard rather than seen- shatter isn’t anything you can see besides stuff breaking, but it’s loud and rings ears. mass cure wounds and their other healing spells feel like cold water washing over people but in a pleasant way rather than anything else
Valora: she doesn’t have a lot of spells (or use those she has) in the first place, but when she casts any, they’re stereotypical-looking holy spells; bright white + yellow light, a little sparkly. zone of truth & sanctuary look similar in that they’re both more bubble/shield-looking rather than look like some area marked off on the ground
Theodore: weaker-looking (and feeling) than most other people’s magic, since he’s more afraid of it than anything and never puts his whole heart into it. the majority of it comes out black or dark purple through no fault of his own, though he tries to change it if he can. dancing lights, the only spell he ever uses regularly, normally takes the form of little floating purple candles
Tirr’da: they take a lot of care in making sure their magic is appropriately cool enough for wee jas. given that their holy symbol’s a big ruby skull, most of their spells also take a darker/gother turn, With A Lot Of Fire. spirit guardians, to be specific, takes the form of two red + winged fiery skulls. they’re not evil tho, just dedicated
Sarak: the least personalized magic out of everyone here, probably. he focuses a lot on making sure things are Correct and powerful first and foremost. if you looked up shocking grasp or thunderwave in The Big Book of Magic, pictures of sarak casting them would be there
Newyear: i drew em but yknow. the positive plane’s influence has made every spell they cast bright and rainbow-colored, whether they want them to be like that or not. they’re used to it by now
Shahar: More Fire, but this time more of the divine and bright sort rather than whatever tirr’da does. with her line of work, being flashy with her spellcasting helps out a lot. magic missile turns into bright yellow shards of light that burst on impact, and detect good & evil, even if she’s the only one that sees it, covers people in either golden or dark red auras, Depending
Adalard: he didn’t use to do magic, since he was a fighter, and that was probably for the best. now that he’s a cleric of selune and trying to better himself, his magic is relatively simple and pretty-looking. lots of white and sparkles. he doesn’t have any offensive spells for Pacifism Reasons, but cure wounds and his other healing spells glitter and scar when they heal
Candor: despite being two different classes of spellcaster, he just doesn’t care too much about how his magic looks. most of his spells are quick and painful (to the other person), and because of his affinity towards lightning they go from neon yellow to blinding white. mage hand, rather than just looking like a regular solid hand, appears as arcs of electricity in a vaguely claw-hand shape.
