This is my second day of not drawing at lunch, but I had an appointment yesterday and I don't feel great today. I have already sketched out my next pastel piece, on actual pastel paper this time, but I don't thinky massive box of $7 pastels are going to cut it. Mind, they were probably bought in 2000 or so, so acv is probably higher because they are antiques and inflation. (J/k)
This one is a still life featuring a sku, which is a traditional artistic subject, often featuring symbols, to represent the idea that life is fleeting and death comes for all. Good times.
Extinguished candles are a supporting symbol, and flowers/coins are also used, I assume to make the same point about money and beauty. Now I need a skull. I'm considering painting the arrangement by low light/ candlelight, which is an English landscape painter's technique I learned about on fake or fortune, the bbc show. (I could go on about this show and the fact that they completely buy into the value of paintings by artist, and how they don't address criticisms of this assigning of value being nonsensical and sometimes considered a form of money laundering, but I digress)
