I have to try and make this post again because tumblr wants to make me live difficult 😔
I went to nextNOW fest last night and had a blast! I got to see the Osman Koç room, the UMD Comedy Showcase, and Ari Lennox!
1) What did you see/hear/learn that was completely new to you?
The Osman Koç Showcase was a really interesting first for me! Seeing the room work together to change the interactive graphics on the screen was really fun. It was clear everyone was having a blast! It was also my first time hearing Ari Lennox and I was floored by how beautiful her voice was!
2) What was your favorite performance/experience? Why was it your favorite?
The Comedy Showcase was by far my favorite. I went with a friend and we couldn’t stop laughing the entire time. The personal stories that the comedians shared also added to the sense of casual conversation that I loved. The connection between the audience and the people on stage just felt so personal.
3) How might one or more of the performances/experiences relate to the Arts Scholars theme of Migrations: Populations and Practices on the Move?
Many of the comedians were very own about their different backgrounds. One comedian in particular was from Argentina, which is also where my family and I came from! His jokes about that experience really connected with me and the theme of migration. Having your family migrate to America rather than being from here really changes your experience and I think he captured at well.
