W dniu dzisiejszym fioletowa landlady odeszła w przeszłość. Przeprowadziłem się do nieco droższego, ale i większego pokoju w domu w sąsiedniej do Millbrook dzielnicy Southampton - Freemantle, gdzie mogę się rozwalić na podwójnym łóżku, gdzie jest ciepła woda w kranie, płyn do mycia naczyń, szczotka do kibla w łazience i wielki ogród z żulerskim grillem zrobionym z przeciętej na pół beczki po oleju. Współlokatorzy to osoby pracujące, w różnym wieku, choć raczej zbliżonym do mojego i starsi… ale najlepsze jest to, że landlord, skądinąd sympatyczny Sikh w gustownym turbanie, nie mieszka tutaj, ma swoje życie i nie wpierdala się w zmywanie, pranie i wydalanie swoich najemców.

Widzę już, że punktem krytycznym będzie łazienka - przy szóstce osób jeden prysznic i sracz może oznaczać problemy. Ale jest utrzymywany czysto, podobnie jak kuchnia. Coś z innych wad…? Hm, Meduza zapadła na fazę śląską, to i ja powiem w ten sposób: sztynk capioncych fuzekli lokatorów z pierwszego mieszkania na parterze, którzy mają zwyczaj wystawiania butów na korytarz (jak na polskiej wsi normalnie) sprawia, że patrzały mi odparowują i mam ochotę krzyknąć “Meine Augen tut mir weh!!!” głosem Orfiego. Domowa broń biologiczna normalnie. Ale na szczęście mieszkam na piętrze, więc muszę się z nią ścierać tylko wchodząc/wychodząc i idąc do kuchni. Aha, z lokatorami z parteru nie pokonwersuję, bo oni no speaking inglese weri gu (to mąż) albo no spiking inglese ani trochę (to żona). Na szczęście zostaje jeszcze starsza para Filipińczyków drzwi obok, zdaje się, że namaszczeni na prowizorycznych ogarniaczy tej wesołej menażerii. No i dwóch Anglików zajmujących jedynki, których jeszcze nie widziałem. Wszystko w swoim czasie.

Chyba mogę się w końcu zająć życiem jak człowiek.

Za śmieszne grosze (mniej niż £1) w CEX-ie (taki sieciowy komis z elektroniką) kupiłem sobie Gun’a i Deus Ex. I zamierzam w końcu użyć bardziej regularnie tej cholernej Playstation 2, którą sobie kupiłem jeszcze w Salisbury. Dostane od Ktula Devil May Cry 3 póki co się kurzy po porażce w kontakcie z pierwszą częścią, w której idiotyczna i niemodyfikowalna praca kamery, jak również ignorowanie moich save’ów przez system - poza ustalonymi odgórnie punktami… w takim razie po co możliwość zapisu w ogóle?? - doprowadziły mnie do furii i odpuszczenia sobie tej potencjalnie ciekawej gry. Tekken z kolei nie jest fajny jeśli nie gra się w niego z kimś przy browarze. Mogę trochę pomęczyć Hwaranga, ale nigdy nie byłem maniakiem nawalanek. Ostatnie Mortal Kombaty mają przynajmniej jakiś story mode do gry pojedynczej.

Nota bene, aktualny przepychacz fioletowej gospodyni przywiózł do domu nowiutką PS4-kę i 40-calowy telewizor. Nie jestem gadżeciarzem, ale chyba rozumiem, na co poleciała :)

Cóż, idziemy dalej. Oby ku lepszemu.

Muzyka na dziś (po kliknięciu): oryginalnie utwór z Nexuiz, najlepszego FPS na Linuxa, ale ktoś się z kimś pożarł o prawa do czegoś, bla bla, i teraz to samo (albo prawie) chodzi pod nazwą Xonotic.

Nexuiz - 일인칭 슈팅 게임

DDTP 번역 작업을 하는 중 우연히 Nexuiz라는 게임의 패키지 설명을 번역하게 되었다. FPS 게임도 재미있게 했었고, 또 데비안에 들어 있는 GPL로 배포되는 게임을 안 깔아볼 이유가 없다! (그런데 데이터 패키지 파일 하나가 무려 130메가) 딱 플레이해보면 하나부터 열까지 연상되는 게임이 "언리얼 토너먼트"였다. 분위기부터가 으슥하면서 여기저기 점프대와 워프할 수 있는 문이 보인다. 형형색색의 갑옷을 입은 미래전사들이 화면을 가르는 뿅뿅 소리를 내면서 광선으로 상대방을 가루로 만들고 다닌다. 각종 아이템으로 무기와 탄환을 먹고 체력을 회복하고 파워업을 하며 전우좌후로 여기저기 재빠르게 움직이며 상대가 보이자 마자 인정사정 보지 않고 달려들며 총부터 쏜다. http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/public/2.jpg 오히려 최근 FPS의 추세는 이러한 퀘이크나 언리얼 토너먼트와 같은 게임과는 달리 사실적인 사격과 사실적인 움직임을 구현한 게임들이 주도하고 있다. 총을 한 두방만 맞아도 죽고, 총구가 흔들리고, 캐릭터나 무기에 따라 적중 확률이 달라지고, 연사보다 점사의 정확도가 높고, 총을 쏘는 자세에 따라 집탄도가 다르다. 사실적인 게 꼭 좋다기 보다는, 매니아들을 위한 게임보다는 좀 더 대중화될 수 있는 게임을 만드는 게 이익이니까. 어쨌든 충분히 FPS를 즐길 수 있는 상당히 높은 완성도로 구현되어 있다. 멀티플레이를 위한 게임이라서 더 그럴 수도 있지만 특별히 다듬어야 할 부분이 보이지 않는다. (하지만 괜히 싱글플레이해보려다가 꽤 높은 수준의 봇때문에 당황했다. 언리얼류에 비해서는 꽤 어렵다...) 그나저나 이제 FPS를 할 때는 아닌가보다. 멀티플레이 해 보려고 접속하자 마자 이렇게 총도 얼마 못 쏴보고 계속 학살당하다니.. (자동 조준 기능이라도 집어 넣은 클라이언트를 쓰는 건가;;)

So, there is this little shooter on Steam that people may or may not know about. It’s called Nexuiz.

It was a mod that was created on the Quake Engine and was released by AlienWare in 2005. The game gained popularity because of the community and because it was based on a awesome engine and everything was fine and dandy.

(Now I could go into detail on HOW we got to the new Nexuiz, but that is for another time I think)

Fast forward to 2011, and the lead designer of Nexuiz worked with Illfonic to make a new version of Nexuiz based on the CryENGINE 3 engine. The game released in February 2012 on Xbox Live and in May 2012 on Steam.

Now, here is where everything starts turning a bit ugly. Illfonic’s new game just happened to be published by…THQ. (Alarm bells should be ringing right now)

THQ published the game to mainly help with the console side of things (Provide the servers, less money to spend on it etc) and Illfonic was looking after the PC version themselves.

In March 2013, when THQ was closed down the Xbox Servers were turned off (Since they technically belong to THQ) and that was the end of that. Illfonic couldn’t pay to get servers, so they declared that Nexuiz on the Xbox was pretty much dead and the servers being shut down was the nail in the coffin.

Since then, everything has been deteriorating on the PC side of things. We (the community) were told about a month after THQ was closed down that the PC Servers wouldn’t go down.

A month after that…Yup, you guessed it…The PC MASTER SERVER went down. What does that mean? That means that the game is pretty much useless since it needs a master server to run the game (Oh, I should point out, that Nexuiz is primarily a multiplayer game, there is no Single-Player mode, unless you are playing against bots)

And today, a Illfonic dev has made a post on the forums stating that nothing has been happening and there doesn’t seem to be a new server coming along any time soon.

So, where am I getting to which this long winded post. I am looking to make a change to Nexuiz and hopefully something that get this game back up and running and hopefully get the community (or even new players) back into the game and hopefully get a 2nd tournament with ESL.

I have submitted a ticket to Steam to see if they can do anything to help us..to help Illfonic get the servers back up and running and make this game awesome again. I am willing to help those guys if only they are willing to trust the community who really want to play this game.
