NFL Draft Preview/Player Profile
Our6thMan Says: #1 Overall
Miller is by far pound for pound the best athlete in the draft. He is an outside linebacker that specializes in getting after the passer. With elite 4.4 speed Miller uses his quickness to blow past tackles and get to the QB. Miller is the full package of speed and power as he was selected as this year's Butkus Award for the best linebacker in College Football.
Miller will transcend best in the NFL in a 3-4 scheme. However with his ability if drafted to a 4-3 team he will be able to make the required adjustments. The Carolina Panthers have the #1 pick and new head coach Ron Rivera is a 3-4 believer, the obvious pick is Miller. However, the Panthers will most likely pass on Miller and go in a different direction. The Denver Broncos have the #2 pick and new head coach John Fox will be switching the Defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Although it is not his type of defense, Miller will most likely end up in Denver. The Broncos need help at the linebacker position and they know Miller is a once in a decade backer. If for some reason Miller is not picked in the top 2, he could end up going to the Bills at 3, the Cardinals at 5, or the 49ers at 7 (All 3-4 Defenses). Any team that passes on Von Miller will regret it!
Our6thMan NFL Comparison = Clay Matthews III
Like Matthews, Miller is a rare talent with both speed and strength. If Miller is drafted to a team playing a 3-4 we will see him have the same impact on a game that Matthews does. If playing in a 4-3 he will still be a success but his talents will not be fully utilized. If Ron Rivera and the Panthers are smart they will draft Von Miller.
