I’ve read up on this but I don’t understand the lingo. Does Joe Burrow still get paid his full amount if he’s out injured? And what about next year? Do they have to pay him even if hypothetically he left or was injured still/retired etc or left before his contract is up?
I’m not from the states so I don’t understand the salary rules. Any possibility of explaining it like I’m 5 lol
His contract has an injury guarantee clause. Yes, he will still get paid this year.
If he is still on the Bengals roster next year, he will also still get paid.
If he gets traded, the team he will go to will pick up the contract. But, they might renegotiate the terms.
If he gets released from the Bengals they are still on the hook for the base salary of the ‘26 and ‘27 season. Example: what happened with Russell Wilson and the Broncos.
If he retires, he will not get the money for those years he is not on the roster by the 5th league day.
