It was lovely watching the kids play with their lanterns and walk the grounds of the @sysnmh. It's what I recalled doing as a kid every Mid-Autumn Festival with the neighbourhood kids. There was the trying to get parents to buy you the best lantern ever, playing with candles and fire, and always, someone's lantern burning down, followed by tears. All of us kids will walk in a train round the neighbourhood, carrying our lanterns proudly. . . Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 21st September this year, when it's full moon 🎑. One place you can bring the kids to, along with their lanterns, is at @sysnmh with their cute installations. #wanqingmidautumnfestival2021 #wanqingmidautumnfestival #ngaewngaew "Lantern Installation: “Those Moonlit Moments..” Produced by Thailand artist Boonyavee Boonsakda (Ngaew Ngaew), in collaboration with the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, Those Moonlit Moments … is an outdoor installation comprising four large lanterns featuring the artist’s characters who are enjoying mooncakes and each other’s company under the gentle and watchful eye of Ngaew’s Moon Rabbit. The Moon Rabbit character was created specially for the Mid-Autumn Festival and is inspired by the Jade Rabbit from Chinese folklore which keeps the goddess Chang’e company on the moon. The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its brightest and roundest, and it symbolises the joyous union of family and friends. The installation represents our collective wish to be able to get together and reunite with our loved ones, both locally and overseas, during these difficult times. It will be on display on the lawn of the Memorial Hall from 31 August to 26 September 2021, 10am to 9pm daily. As the mid-point of autumn falls on 21st September this year, preparations are underway for one of the most loved Chinese celebrations in the lunar calendar. Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Mooncake Festival, was traditionally a Chinese end of harvest festival, taking place on the day of the brightest full moon (15th day of the eighth lunar month) and symbolises the joyous union of family and friends. Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival and learn about Chinese traditions and customs from the comfort of your own home with the digital edition of the well-loved Wan Qing Mid-Autumn Festival, an annual cultural event for the community organised by Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. It will be held online this year via their Facebook page (@sysnmh) and Instagram (@sysnmh).
