i think sometimes people are a little harsh about sam telling dean to give up hunting. like yes, sam isn’t asking dean what he wants to do with his life and is imposing his general belief of what the right thing to do is, but i think more than anything sam is basically saying “promise me you won’t kill yourself.” and to some degree sam is right for this! like dean spends a year in a lavender marriage, but he at least has time to attempt to grieve in a healthy way. if he was hunting, dean suicide winchester would let himself get ripped to shreds. sam and dean literally don’t know any different. they know hunting, and they know the nebulous magical “normal life” they both think they want, but have never had. sam thinks he’s giving dean the relief they both have always dreamed about.
