BUG ART AT LONG LAST!!!

This was done in the week leading up to the NHMLA Bug Fair event that I got to attend!! It's a drawing of my ultimate favorite bug, the white-lined sphinx moth. The moth was done entirely with one brush (Nowhere Else in the new Procreate brush library) and it was a really fun exercise in working with just one brush and figuring out how to do gradients that I'd normally airbrush in. Super fun to do and I love how it turned out :) next on my bug art list is my favorite spider, the green lynx spider!!

ANNNND I got the CUTEST hand-painted beetle from Kowatoast!! I told myself when I first saw her that I didn't NEED her... but I kept thinking about her throughout the event, so I came back and bought her and I'm so happy that I did

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County has posted its old magazines on the Internet Archive, from 1926 through 2001. They are a great source of the museum's history and Los Angeles history.

It’s been a year since I’ve been able to volunteer at the museum but here are some blessed museum moments I hold onto:

Child who ran back to give the coyote pelt a hug

Having my description of the megamouth as a ‘big boy’ translated into French

Woman who was initially nervous around the arthropods calling me over because the beetle was doing something cute

Instagrammers who immediately had to share things

Mutually infodumping back and forth with young autistic kids and feeling like I’m looking at an old photograph

Little kids who were very excited and happy to be in the spider pavilion

People who were less excited but softened up at the sight of spiderlings

Staff being very excited about the new rats
