Response to announcement of industrial action

Department of Health spokesperson said:

"This is disappointing. NHS staff are our greatest asset and we want to make the current pay system fairer — which is why we have put forward proposals that would guarantee all staff would get at least a 1% pay rise this year and next, but these have been rejected by the unions.

"We have taken tough decisions to increase the NHS budget, but we can't afford a consolidated pay rise in addition to increments without risking 10,000 frontline jobs.”

Public services strike solidarity rally, Middlesbrough – Tuesday, October 14

Tuesday, October 14 at 7pm in St Mary's Centre, 82-90 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough TS1 2RW

Workers in the NHS, education and civil service will be taking strike action over pay on October 13, 14 and 15.

In partnership with Tees Valley Public Services Alliance, we are hosting a rally on Tuesday, October 14 to support our public services workers' demands for fair pay and to build for the 'Britain Needs A Pay Rise' march being held in London a few days later.

We'll have speakers from unions involved in the action and there'll be plenty of time for open discussion.

Please come along and show your support as the Coalition government's attacks on our public services affect us all.

The rally will be held on Tuesday, October 14, starting at 7pm, on the 2nd floor of St Mary's Centre, 82-90 Corporation Road, Middlesbrough TS1 2RW. The venue is fully accessible.
