@Regrann from @latamtravelist - As dusk falls, the skyline of the historic Nicaraguan city of Granada is dominated by the mustard-yellow of the wedding cake cathedral, with its white lines and red domes. Often described as Spanish colonial, the cathedral is closer to neo-classical in design and dates back no further than 1915, after the original building was burnt to the ground by the US filibuster William Walker in 1856. Granada is one of those exceptional cities that despite the grandeur of its 19th century mansions seems more like a village in scale. After a few days of wandering around you feel like you've lived there for months. With the forested slopes of Mombacho volcano on one side, the wide expanse of Lake Nicaragua and the islands of Las Isletas in front, and the profusion of tall palms emerging from the patios of colonial, red-tiled buildings, the city is also exceptionally green. No wonder it's become such a haven for expats. Hopefully, I shall return soon. #granada #nicaragua #nica #nicaraguaistuani #sunset #nicaraguadisena @okgranada #nicaraguita #expathaven #asiesnicaragua #instatravel #nicaraguaistuani @asisomosnicaragua #diakachimba @visitanicaragua #streetfood #pets #nicapride #travel #adventure #streetpeople #discovernicaragua #nicapride #pinoleros #granadanicaragua #centralamerica #thisyearnicaragua #latinamerica #nicaragua2017 - #regrann
